Deluge of Passion in a Genteel Marriage Plot
In a theater box a man known as the Bucket-shop King pursues Anita Ellersly, using money and manipulation to press for marriage. Anita resists while revealing family pressures and moral price, then consents under pressure, and her mother reacts with tears of relief. The courtship turns on poverty, status, and desire as the pair negotiate a perilous alliance.
