Midnight Runaway Into Lava Beds Hits Big Wood Contractor
John W. Monarch, tied to a 4 mile ditch project for the Big Wood river people, endured a late night runaway 25 miles north of Shoshone. In lava beds the yoke strap broke, the tongue dropped, and the buckboard pitched into a lava hole. A rider jumped clear and Monarch halted the team. only the buckboard pole was broken.
