Funeral Services Announced For Mrs. Willie Kubicek

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Shiner Catholic Church for Mrs. Willie Kubicek nee Mary Grill of Shiner who died Monday November 20 1972 in Trinity Lutheran Home where she had resided since August 25. Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel and burial will be in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Mary Adamek of Shiner, a bookkeeper for Guettner's TV and Appliance. More write-up to follow.

Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service in Shiner

The Shiner Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Lutheran Church in Shiner on Wednesday evening November 22 at 7 30 p m Eight congregations join in worship with a joint choir directed by Charles Schaal of Gonzales and the Catholic Youth Choir under Sister Antoinette performing an anthem This ecumenical service invites all Christians in the Shiner area to give thanks strengthen faith and enliven their pilgrimage.

Funeral services for Victor David Veit of Corpus Christi were held at 10:00 am Wednesday November 15 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with a funeral mass. Burial with full military honors followed at Seaside Memorial Park.

Oscar F Kasparek of Shiner died November 10 1972 at 8 30 p.m. after a brief illness. Funeral services were held November 13 at 9 30 a.m. in Shiner Catholic Church with Rev Msgr Hana officiating. Burial followed at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery near Hallettsville. Surviving are his son William Kasparek of Shiner daughter Ruth Wilson of Stinnett stepdaughter Joyce Hajek of Dallas five grandchildren and several relatives.

Texas Farm Bureau picks policies at 39th convention in Houston

Nine Lavaca County delegates joined 900 voting delegates at the Rice Hotel for the 39th Texas Farm Bureau convention November 12 15 1972. More than 1500 attended as sessions covered admin reports addresses by Dolph Briscoe Jr and Marvin McLelland with multiple conferences and the Queen's contest.

Funeral Rites Held For George Renken

George Renken of Corpus Christi died at 12:30 p.m. Friday November 10 1972 after a long illness at 87 years 10 months 28 days. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Monday November 13 at Clifford Jackson Funeral Home with Rev. G A Poehlmann officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers included Edsel and Reid Renken Donald Schraub Thomas Davis Harry Oaken and Jack Young. He was born December 12 1884 in La Grange, later lived in Shiner Nordheim Nueces County near Corpus Christi. Survived by two sons Edgar Renken Robstown and Herbert Renken Corpus Christi, a daughter Thuswelda Schraub Corpus Christi, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Continuous family survivors and listing of predeceased relatives noted. Relatives from Shiner Gonzales and Yoakum attended.

Christmas Lighting Contest in Shiner City

The City of Shiner Electrical and Utilities Department sponsors an outdoor Christmas lighting and decorating contest. Shiner To Observe Thanksgiving Day

Shiner business houses will be closed Thursday November 23 in observance of Thanksgiving Day. The Post Office will also be closed with no rural route deliveries. All grocery stores feature the same specials as advertised in this week's Gazette. First National Bank will also be closed.
