Grand Jury Indicts Twelve in Lavaca County Fall Session

The Lavaca County Grand Jury handed up twelve indictments during the Fall Term in Hallettsville. Accused include Jerry Mobley and Esther Villarreal for theft, Manuel Garza for theft, Melvin Fabian for theft and burglary, John Tolson for theft, and joint cases of possession of marijuana involving multiple defendants.

The 1972 Shiner High School Homecoming Queen will be crowned during pre game ceremonies at 7 30 p.m. Friday November 17 at Comanche Stadium. Shiner ISD Board Hears Audit and Accreditation Update

Shiner Independent School District trustees met November 8 with six board members present. CPA Paul Lucas reviewed the annual audit covering receipts expenditures and bond issues plus consolidated application funds. The board approved the reports and received the accreditation team’s first letter noting exceptions on campus and personnel records.

George Renken Dies In Corpus Christi Hospital

Mrs. Ella Kurtz mourns the death of her only surviving brother George Renken who died at Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital on Friday November 10 1972 at age 87. Surviving are Mrs. Kurtz and sister Mrs. Ed Beinhauer of Portland. Funeral was scheduled in Corpus Christi Monday November 13 at 2 00 p m with more details to follow.

Linda Vaclavik returns from nationwide therapy convention

Mrs. Linda Vaclavik came back Sunday October 29 1972 from a week in Los Angeles where she attended the National American Occupational Therapy Association Convention at the Statler Hilton Hotel. She is a senior occupational therapy student at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and plans to graduate August 1973 after a third internship at Jeff Davis Hospital in Houston. The couple resides in Dickinson Texas.

Shiner Mourns Sudden Death of Mrs. Felix Hybner

Mrs Mary Louise Janecek Hybner of Shiner died November 8 1972 at home after a probable heart attack at age 56. Her funeral was held November 10 at Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with a large service and burial in Shiner Cemetery. Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service in Shiner

The Shiner Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Lutheran Church on Wednesday November 22 at 7 30 p.m. Eight local congregations join in a joint choir directed by Charles Schaal of Gonzales and the Catholic Youth Choir led by Sister Antoinette will sing an anthem. The ecumenical service invites all Christians in Shiner to give thanks and strengthen faith as they gather for worship.

Costly deer kills Columbus two in poaching case

Two Houston men were arrested on Interstate 10 east of Columbus for possession of deer out of season. Freddie Chaney pleaded guilty and paid 364 dollars while Bobby Williams owed 109 dollars in fines in Justice of the Peace Richard Schmidt's court. In Pleasanton, two men from Poteet and San Antonio were fined 600 dollars each for having six illegal deer.
