The FFA Boys of Shiner High School meet the Business Men at the Gymnasium Thursday November 20 at 7 30 pm Both sides will wear female outfits and the Pep squad will cheer The halftime will feature the announcement of the FFA Sweetheart as a main event.

Soul and Body Lesson Sings Joy in Divine Presence

Christian Science services announce the Sunday Lesson Sermon titled Soul and Body to be read in all churches on November 23. Annual Thanksgiving Supper At Shiner Parish Well Attended

The Shiner Catholic parish at Blucher Park hosted its annual Thanksgiving supper on Sunday drawing a large crowd. Activities began at 1 p.m. with games and amusements, followed by a 4 p.m. meal of chicken turkey sausage and trimmings. Receipts totaled 279.28 dollars.

Houston Zoo Chief Hans Nagel Shot to Death

Hans Nagel, head zookeeper since 1924 at Hermann Park Zoo, was shot five times in an argument with H M Warren, a motorcycle park policeman, at Hermann Park between the golf clubhouse and Almeda Road. Nagel, renowned for breeding wild animals and elevating the Houston zoo to national prominence, died at the scene.

Brunkenhoefer Golden Wedding Celebrated at Shiner

The D Brunkenhoefer couple marked their golden anniversary on November 11 at their country home west of Shiner. A noon dinner honored the pair, their seven children, fourteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild, with many relatives and friends visiting through the afternoon. They wed November 12, 1891 in Weimar and moved to Shiner in 1912.

Shiner High School P. T. A. Holds November Meeting

The Shiner High School P. T. A. met Thursday afternoon November 13 at 3 30. The Membership Committee reported seventy eight members. All Halloween Carnival bills were approved for payment. The group voted to join the Bi County Council of Fayette and Lavaca Counties. Mr Auld spoke on Education at the Crossroads and the next meeting will be December 11 with Rev Rayford Harris as speaker.

John Deere Day Event in Shiner on November 24

The Hajek Implement and Supply Company schedules a free John Deere Day for farmers in the Shiner area on Monday November 24. A free 10:30 a m picture show starring Slim Summerville and Zasu Pitts in Uncle Joe will entertain, followed by a free lunch at noon. Admission is by ticket only, obtainable from Hajek Implement. Henry M Richter Dies in Houston of Heart Attack

Henry M. Richter of Houston, 56, president of Southwestern Settlement and Development Corp, died of a heart attack at Methodist Hospital in Houston Saturday. Funeral was Monday at Second Baptist Church, with burial in Forest Park. He led forestry and land development efforts in east Texas, promoted reforestation, and served as land and tax official for multiple Houston-based companies.

Shiner Business Men's Club hosts Red Cross talk and plans

The Shiner Business Men's Club met at Meyer's Modern Cafe on November 13 with 18 members and one guest. Mrs Elo Wolters outlined Lavaca County Red Cross activities and the need for 350 new members, plus a drive to raise funds. Committee reports covered solicitors permit plan, a stock show for spring, a basketball game with the F F A Club on November 20, and the Christmas Tree program set for December 5. The next meeting was canceled for Thanksgiving, and the club adjourned.

Longtime Texas civic leader dies after a life of service

The obituary notes his roles as president of the Texas Highway 8 association, a member of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce, and a director of the Texas Forestry association. He supported civic projects and was a philanthropist aiding many youths. Survived by his Houston widow, daughter Mrs Lebbeus C Kemp Jr of Scarsdale NY, two grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers. The Gazette mourns his loss.
