The Palace Cafe has changed hands after twenty years under Hugo Pohler. Weldon Schuetze is the new proprietor. Pohler has not announced future plans. The note extends best wishes to Schuetze and hopes for Pohler's prosperous future in his endeavors.
The Shiner Branch of the Farmers League will hold its regular meeting in Shiner on Tuesday. The 1942 farm program will be reviewed and several topics will be discussed in detail.
Christian Science services announce the Sunday lesson sermon on ancient ven modern necromancy denounced. The Golden Text cites Jeremiah 29 8 9, warning against prophets and diviners deceiving in the Lord’s name. A citation from Psalms 64 10 notes the upright shall glory and trust in the Lord.
The United Dr Martin Luther Church schedules Sunday School at 9 30 a m and Divine Service at 10 30 a m in German with a Thursday 10 a m Thanks giving Service. A Saturday 9 a m Instruction Class and a Tuesday Dec 2 Women s Missionary Society meet at 7 30 p m for an Indian Centennial Festival. Rev Richard Schuetze invites participation as the Advent season opens with the message Behold thy King cometh and a call to faith.

To earn full AAA payments in 1942 a Lavaca county farmer must devote at least 25 percent of land to erosion-resisting crops, plant within acreage allotments, and earn a soil-building allowance. Erosion crops include legumes, cowpeas, soybeans, and many fall-seeded grains. fall crops must be seeded in fall 1941 for the 1942 program.
Yoakum postmaster and civic leader J A McFadden died at his East Hugo Street home after a two year illness. Born September 27 1874 in Milford he served in the Spanish American War and was active in church and community work. He leaves wife Alice and two daughters Mary Delk and Sue White along with brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held at 4 pm Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Miss Gladys Huber and Mr Edgar Pfeil wed at United Dr Martin Luther Church on Sunday November 23 at 2 pm. The couple, prominent Shiner residents, exchanged vows with family members serving as attendants and best man. A turkey supper followed at Mrs Gus Pfeil’s home and a wedding dance at Blucher Park capped the celebration.
Monday attracted an estimated crowd of over 600 farmers and locals to Shiner for John Deere Day. Emil Hajek of Hajek Implement and Supply Co led a one day exhibit featuring factory men and equipment. A Lett Mill Demonstration by Frank Myers and John Thornbury operated the picture show machine before and after the show.
In a hard fought overtime tilt last Thursday the Business Men edged the FFA 23 to 21 after a tied game at the end of regulation. A small crowd braved uncertain weather as the FFA collected about 18 dollars from ticket sales and thanked all who helped run the event.

The Defense Special Train Exhibit will be in San Antonio on Wednesday December 3 under the Office of Production Management. The Chamber of Commerce leaders and business community will receive free tickets upon application to L. E. Denmark, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, Shiner, and others involved.

Miss Benita Schraer daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Schraer of Shiner graduates Providence Sanitarium Waco and joins the regular nurses staff there after successfully passing the state board examination. The community congratulates her on this achievement and wished further success in her chosen profession.
Elton Renken and Miss Hattie Baros were married at United Dr. Martin Luther Church Saturday at 3:30 in a simple ceremony officiated by Rev. R. Schuetze. Witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Fredrick. The bride wore an olive green suit with white chrysanthemum corsage, the groom a teal blue suit. The couple's parents hosted supper at the groom's home and best wishes were extended for a long, happy marriage.
Kristian Josef Sembera died Wednesday at 7 p m at his son’s home one mile west of Shiner after a short illness. He was 66 years 1 month and 5 days old and had lived in Shiner for over 30 years. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 30 pm at Eschenburg Funeral Parlor with Svaz Ceskoslovenskych Rac nolister lodge of Houston officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery. Pallbearers named. He was born October 14 1875 in Dolai Hermanice Czechoslovakia and came to the United States at age seven, settling in Flatonia. He and his wife Anna Sonka raised nine children. Surviving: six sons Rudolf Bakersfield CA Adolph Emil Frank Willie Ah ted. three daughters Mrs Rudolf Barta El Campo Miss Olga Sembera Fort Worth Mrs Jimmie Vincik Shiner. one brother Frank Sembera Flatonia. three sisters Mrs Marie Bartos Bomarton Mrs Kristina Barta Beeville Mrs Henrietta Barta Flatonia. The Gazette extends sincere sympathy.
Dailey Bros Circus showcases a two hour program with trained animals, thrilling stunts, a concert band and comic clowns. The Texas show plans 2 and 8 pm performances on Wednesday December 3rd at the school ground with a focus on moderate admission and notable arena stars. Fred Rippel, prominent Dickson resident, died at Renger's Hospital Hallettsville Monday at 3 00 p.m. after a three year illness. He was 37. Funeral was Wed at 9 from his father in law Nick Jurecek's home to St Marys Catholic Church with Requiem Mass by Rev. Psencik. Interment in St Marys Cemetery. Survived by wife Bessie Jurecek, parents Joe W. and Mrs. Rippel Sr., Fayetteville grandparents, five brothers Joe Otto Laddie Edward Willie, two sisters Julia Dolezal and Mrs George Bayess. one brother Frank preceded him.
The school event titled Turkey Sheet at Green School has been postponed and rescheduled for December 14. Officials cited venue or scheduling conflicts as the reason for the delay. No new venue announced yet, but confirmation of the date change was issued to participants and families.
