Palace Cafe Changes Hands

The Palace Cafe has changed hands after twenty years under Hugo Pohler. Weldon Schuetze is the new proprietor. Pohler has not announced future plans. The note extends best wishes to Schuetze and hopes for Pohler's prosperous future in his endeavors.

The Shiner Branch of the Farmers League will hold its regular meeting in Shiner on Tuesday. The 1942 farm program will be reviewed and several topics will be discussed in detail.

Lavaca farmer must meet erosion, planting, and soil rules

To earn full AAA payments in 1942 a Lavaca county farmer must devote at least 25 percent of land to erosion-resisting crops, plant within acreage allotments, and earn a soil-building allowance. Erosion crops include legumes, cowpeas, soybeans, and many fall-seeded grains. fall crops must be seeded in fall 1941 for the 1942 program.

Yoakum Postmaster J A McFadden Dies At 67

Yoakum postmaster and civic leader J A McFadden died at his East Hugo Street home after a two year illness. Born September 27 1874 in Milford he served in the Spanish American War and was active in church and community work. He leaves wife Alice and two daughters Mary Delk and Sue White along with brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held at 4 pm Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pfeil Huber wedding at United Dr Luther Church in Shiner

Miss Gladys Huber and Mr Edgar Pfeil wed at United Dr Martin Luther Church on Sunday November 23 at 2 pm. The couple, prominent Shiner residents, exchanged vows with family members serving as attendants and best man. A turkey supper followed at Mrs Gus Pfeil’s home and a wedding dance at Blucher Park capped the celebration.

John Deere Day Draws Large Crowd in Shiner

Monday attracted an estimated crowd of over 600 farmers and locals to Shiner for John Deere Day. Emil Hajek of Hajek Implement and Supply Co led a one day exhibit featuring factory men and equipment. A Lett Mill Demonstration by Frank Myers and John Thornbury operated the picture show machine before and after the show.

FFA Narrowly Falls to Business Men in Tight Clash

In a hard fought overtime tilt last Thursday the Business Men edged the FFA 23 to 21 after a tied game at the end of regulation. A small crowd braved uncertain weather as the FFA collected about 18 dollars from ticket sales and thanked all who helped run the event.

Renken Baros Nuptials Saturday at United Dr Church

Elton Renken and Miss Hattie Baros were married at United Dr. Martin Luther Church Saturday at 3:30 in a simple ceremony officiated by Rev. R. Schuetze. Witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Fredrick. The bride wore an olive green suit with white chrysanthemum corsage, the groom a teal blue suit. The couple's parents hosted supper at the groom's home and best wishes were extended for a long, happy marriage.

Death of Kristian J Sembera Shiner Resident Dies at 66

Kristian Josef Sembera died Wednesday at 7 p m at his son’s home one mile west of Shiner after a short illness. He was 66 years 1 month and 5 days old and had lived in Shiner for over 30 years. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 30 pm at Eschenburg Funeral Parlor with Svaz Ceskoslovenskych Rac nolister lodge of Houston officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery. Pallbearers named. He was born October 14 1875 in Dolai Hermanice Czechoslovakia and came to the United States at age seven, settling in Flatonia. He and his wife Anna Sonka raised nine children. Death of Fred Rippel in Hallettsville at 37

Fred Rippel, prominent Dickson resident, died at Renger's Hospital Hallettsville Monday at 3 00 p.m. after a three year illness. He was 37. Funeral was Wed at 9 from his father in law Nick Jurecek's home to St Marys Catholic Church with Requiem Mass by Rev. Psencik. Interment in St Marys Cemetery.
