St Paul Cardinal Booster Club Dinner and Turkey Shoot

The St Paul Cardinal Booster Club of Shiner hosts the second annual turkey shoot and day of entertainment at Wied Hall on Highway 90 A. Events include a turkey shoot at 10:00 a.m. a fried chicken dinner at 11:00 a.m. games at 2:00 p.m. auction at 3:00 p.m. and prize awards at 6:00 p.m. Proceeds benefit St Paul High athletics. Admission for dinner is 1.50 for adults and 0.75 for children 11 and under.

Military Services For WW I Veteran Frank A Marek

WW I veteran Frank A Marek of Shiner died October 22 1972 at Trinity Lutheran Home at age 77 7 24. Services were held October 24 at Sts Cyril and Methodius Church with full American Legion rites and a burial at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He served in Co B 313 MG Bn 80th Division in France entering June 25 1918 and separating June 16 1919. He and wife Christina Svatek had three children and were active in the local Catholic community and American Legion Ko lar Stanek Post 201. He was born February 28 1895 near Shiner to John and Amalia Marek and survived by wife Christina, a son Frank Marek Jr, a daughter Agnes Moeller and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents three brothers and a son.

Adolf H Wegener died suddenly at his home October 20 1972 at age 76. Funeral services were at United Dr. Martin Luther Church Shiner with burial in Shiner City Cemetery. Survived by wife Annie and multiple children grandchildren and great grandson. born in Reckentin Germany in 1896, immigrated to America as an infant.

Funeral Rites Held For F J Kloesel

Funeral services were held for Frank J. Kloesel age 85 at Shiner Catholic Church after lying in state at Buffington Funeral Home. Burial followed in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include wife Rosa and eight grandchildren. Rosary observed at Buffington Chapel.

Dedication of New Flagpole at Shiner Cemetery

A Sunday ceremony in Shiner dedicated a new flagpole at the cemetery on October 22 1972. The pole on a red brick base was donated by the Shiner American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts. Local leaders including Mayor Ben Marcak and veterans from both organizations spoke on patriotism and the meaning of the flag.

Lavaca County Courthouse Marker Dedication Planned

A Texas Historical Marker for the Lavaca County Courthouse will be erected in Hallettsville on Sunday November 5 at 2 00 p m. The 27 by 42 inch cast aluminum marker commemorates the fifth structure and notes the county seat history and architectural details.

Barbara Koenning Named Duchess for Shiner Chamber Event

Barbara Koenning of Shiner was chosen to represent the Shiner Chamber of Commerce at the Cu ero Turkey Trot and Centennial. She rode the Chamber float in the downtown parade on Monday morning October 23. Barbara, a Shiner High School senior, recently was elected F.F.A. Sweetheart and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Koenning.

Mrs. Joe Klesel Jr. Rites In Moulton

Hallie Meta Kiesel Henrichs Klesel, aged 67, died at her Moulton home October 22 1972. Funeral services were held October 25 at Zion Lutheran Church Moulton with Rev Julius Holm officiating. Burial followed in Moulton City Cemetery. Surviving children include Adolph Kiesel Eugene Kiesel Lorene Fishbeck and Louise Orsak. She was born December 7 1904 near Shiner Texas and married Joe Kiesel Jr February 22 1927. Funeral arrangements were by Smith Funeral Home.
