Junior Senior Banquet Held At St Ludmila s

St Ludmila s Academy juniors honored the seniors with a May banquet in the Parish Hall. The event drew 85 guests including seniors juniors and parents with mothers assisting. Toastmistress Miss Gussie Mae Tassler opened remarks followed by speeches from Rt Rev Mons Netardus Rev Bily and Dr F M Wagner addressing wartime guidance and future service. Dancing and punch concluded the evening.

Shiner Lutherans Host To Synod Here Three Days This Week

The 91st annual Evangelical Lutheran Texas Synod convention opened in Shiner Texas at Dr. Martin Luther Church with Pastor R Schuetze leading as pastor. Key figures from Georgia Alabama Synod and Midland College spoke on church duties, mission work, Christian education and perseverance amid emergencies. About 25 pastors and 20 delegates attended.

Horace Cammack Dies Suddenly in Huntsville

Horace D. Cammack, former Shiner High School faculty member and band director, died suddenly in Huntsville Alabama where he and his wife of two months resided. Funeral plans were not announced at press time.

WAAC Celebrates First Birthday

The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps marked its first year on May 16 with about 60,000 members. The organization trains and places women in Army service roles previously held by soldiers, freeing more soldiers for combat. Mrs. Long noted the enrolling of WAACs will expand fighting strength. Local recruitment contacts are urged via the Victoria station and the civilian WAAC committee.

Celebrate 35th Wedding Anniversary of Ed and E Macha

Mr and Mrs Ed E Macha of our city observed their 35th wedding anniversary Monday evening. A special supper was prepared by Mr Macha. Telegrams and telephone messages of congratulations poured in all day as the Machas, married in Gonzales, have lived in Shiner for 30 years. They have three children Robt Keil of Victoria Wilson Macha of Gonzales and Joe of Linton. Keil and Wilson attended. Joe sent a cheerful message. The Gazette extends best wishes for many more years of health and contentment.

Information received by the Local War Price and Rationing Board shows salad oils remain point rationed at five points per pint or pound, despite earlier erroneous radio announcements.

Solemn Holy Communion Held For 25 Children

On Sunday morning May 16 eleven boys and fourteen girls were admitted to Solemn Holy Communion. The altars were decorated with gladioli and the children renewed baptismal vows before Mass. Rt. Rev. Monsignor L. P. Netardus attended. After Mass, Benediction and a breakfast in the Parish Hall followed, with Patek's Band providing music. The class included Daniel Svoboda, Joseph Svoboda, Ed win Svoboda, Helen Veit, Angeline Molnosky, Virginia Granz, Helen Sralla, Evelyn Kurtz, Evelyn Bluda, Mary Dolezal, Viola Fishbeck, Marion Janca, Georgia Louise Balajka, Eugene Petry, Franklin Huser, Paul Vrazel, Lorraine Hajek, Daniel Heimann, Marvin Stock, Georgia Mae Stock, Jimmy Valis, Annie Siegel and Mary Tomek. On May 11 a group of thirty-three children received Holy Communion for the first time, Mass by Rev. Fr Edmund Bily, with the Junior Choir singing. Dahlias adorned the main altar.

Bunjes School Closes May 12 With Diploma Day

Bunjes School closed May 12 with diplomas and an address by Supt J M Auld on democracy. County Supt Bilers and County Clerk Hudson spoke and students received grammar diplomas and perfect attendance certificates. 4 H club ribbons and state poultry praise highlighted the ceremony joined by teachers Chas Cho vanetz and Alton Bengsch who noted long attendance records.

Ralph Dvorak Rites Held In Yoakum Burial At Beck

Funeral services for Rud Ralph Dvorak age 56 were held at Beck Mortuary in Yoakum on Monday at 2 PM. He died May 7 1943 at Corpus Christi Naval Base Hospital born October 18 1887 in Williamson County Texas married to Stella Prince in Cuero December 30 1922. Survived by wife Stella four sons Allen Jack James and Richard four daughters Ruby Ethel Bessie and Clara Dvorak five brothers Frank George Joe Adam Andy four sisters P F Gasch Victoria Mrs Robert Gasch Mrs W A Meyer and Mrs Fred Pippert plus nieces and nephews.
