Graduation at St. Ludmila's Academy May 23
Graduation exercises at St. Ludmila's Academy were held May 23 at 7 30 p m in Sts Cyril and Methodius Church. Rev H W Hug of Yoakum Texas delivered the address urging faith and Christian schooling alongside secular education to prepare graduates for life. Diplomas were conferred by Rt Rev Mons Netardus pastor Benediction by Rev Norbert B Galle Pleasanton Texas. High school choir sang and gladioli the class flower adorned the altars.

Poppies to Honor War Dead in Shiner May 29
Rain and wind damaged crops with hail across the region. Poppies will be worn in Shiner on Saturday May 29 to honor American and World War I and II dead, organized by the American Legion Auxiliary with funds aiding veterans and families. The event follows heavy local rain and wind that toppled trees, disrupted power, and harmed crops, including losses in Sulphur Park and damage around Hrabovsky’s blacksmith shop.

A large crowd attended the high school baccalaureate in the gym where 33 seniors listened to Rev. Cecil Harper deliver a brief sermon on doing one’s best. Pay-As-You-Go Income Tax Plan Agreed In Conference
Washington May 25 breaking a five day deadlock senate and house conferees agreed on a compromise pay as you go income tax plan. It would cancel a full year’s taxes for individuals owing 50 dollars or less and reduce 75 percent of one year’s taxes for others. The plan goes to the house first then the senate for approval.

Jacob Simecek aged 76 died at the family home in Flatonia on Wednesday May 19. Funeral from the home at 9 am and requiem high mass at St Marys Praha. Burial at Praha Cemetery. Survivors include wife four daughters and six sons plus a brother. Born June 7, 1867 in Czechoslovakia he came to this country at 16 and settled near Flatonia. He married Veronica Baca in 1888 and Anna Rubena in 1924.

This Schulenburg Gazette obituary notices Miss Emma Merrem born June 20, 1864 in La Grange Texas died May 16 at the family residence. She raised four nieces and was a devout Evang Lutheran member and served in Eastern Star K of P and Woodmen Lodges. Funeral Monday at 3:00 from the family home with interment in Schulenburg City Cemetery. Pallbearers named. Also noted are Horace Cammack former Shiner teacher and band director who died May 18 in Huntsville Alabama at age 28. Services held in Shiner on May 23 and in Huntsville and Hamburg Ark.
