Tornado kills three in East Texas oil field region
Kilgore, Texas May 10 At least three dead and 18 injured after a tornado swept through East Texas oil field near Leverett's Chapel. Victims were Mrs A B Tuttle and her son Joe plus a neighbor Mrs Jack Norris. The storm destroyed the Tuttle home and several churches and houses. It uprooted 30 oil derricks and caused two wells to flow wild.

The St Ludmila's Academy senior class presented Who Wouldn't Be Crazy with a decorated stage depicting The Good Samaritan Rest House. Former Shiner Resident Victim of Explosion
Charles Merecka a Shiner native died at Freeport Hospital from an explosion in a Freeport war plant on April 29. Born May 30, 1910 in Shiner, he is survived by his wife nee Kostelnik and two sons, plus one brother and four sisters. Funeral services were held May 3 with burial in Needville cemetery.
