Miss Dorothy Muras, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jos Muras, has been chosen by a Chamber of Commerce committee to represent Shiner as Duchess at the Tom Tom celebration, June 8, 9 and 10. Emita Korbel and Howard McDonald will be Junior Duchess and Duke. Max L Wolters was named chairman of the float committee for the parade on June 9.

German Program Great Success at Friday Night Recital

Runk Widow Anna Runk Dies After Short Illness
Mrs. Anna Runk widow of the late Mayor E Runk died May 12 at 11 50 am at the family home after a brief illness. Funeral was held May 13 at 3 pm from the home with Rev J W Burns officiating. Burial in City Cemetery beside her husband. Surviving are two daughters Miss Emma Runk and Mrs Elo Wolters of Shiner, three sons H H Runk Port Lavaca, Bismarck Alice, Herbert Shiner, two brothers Will Probst Red Rock Hy Probst Yoakum, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Pallbearers: Ad Richer L E Denmark J M Canon C J Garbade C C Amsler J F Kasper. She was born December 16 1859 in Koschpendorf Germany and came to America in 1871. She married E Runk in 1882. he died April 21 1932. The Gazette extends sympathy to the family.

Joe Benes Funeral Services Held at Home
Funeral services for Joe Benes a 57 year old Bunjes School resident were held Tuesday at 3 p m at the family home with burial in Shiner S P I S T Cemetery under lodge auspices. Pallbearers were John Podany Frank Mikeska Joe Cizek John Pustejovsky Louis Matus and Eddie Vincik. Benes body was found Monday at 10 a m upstairs in his home by his 8 year old son death attributed to self inflicted causes after recent ill health. He was born in Czechoslovakia and came here 27 years ago marrying Eva Koberna. four children survive Mrs Mary Klima Rosie Benes Adelia and Alfred Joe at home. Also surviving are two sisters Mrs Joe Panis Mrs Jim Vincik and a brother Mike of Dreyer. The family has resided here apart from two years in Danbury and he was known as honest and hard working. his death mourned by many.

Grotto Dedication At Sts Cyril & Methodius Church
A Sunday dedication blessed the Grotto Chapel at Sts Cyril and Methodius Church in Shiner. The Strauss Kopecky families funded the marble statue shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes, with Monsignor Netardus leading the Mass and benediction. Families from Shiner and distant visitors attended, including Dr. Leon Kopecky of San Antonio and the Kutac sisters from Galveston and St Louis.

The Shiner High School Senior Class of 1939 held a Baccalaureate Service Sunday evening in the Gymnasium Auditorium. Rev. A Guyon delivered the sermon urging focus on home church government. The program featured invocation by Rev. J W Petite, Gluck music by Thulemeyer’s Orchestra, songs by the senior class, doxology, and benediction by Rev. A Guyer.
