Gus Jaehne 73 Dies. Rites Held In Shiner Texas

Gustave Adolph Jaehne, 73, of Shiner Texas, died May 12 after a week in the local hospital. Funeral services were May 14 at Buffington Funeral Home and United Dr. Martin Luther Church with Rev. Edwin Oehlke officiating. Survivors include a wife, three daughters, two sons, 12 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several siblings.

Mrs. S. Kubicek Joins Gazette Staff

Mrs. Steve Kubicek accepted a general Gazette staff role with emphasis on desk work phone service and bookkeeping. The Gazette credits her experienced service and courteous reception by management. Interment for Mr. Jaehne occurred at Shiner City Cemetery with a large funeral procession and many mourners.

Social Security Rules Explain Agricultural Tax Status

A Texas Farm Bureau representative clarifies that most area farmers in Shiner are not liable for the agricultural employer's Social Security tax at start date January 1, 1951. Tax applies only after a qualifying quarter and 60 days of full time work with earnings at least $50, with rules detailing continuing eligibility and quarterly tax status.

Shiner Comets Host Sun Day Showdown At Zanders Field

Lavaca County Board meets in Hallettsville May 14 1951 and votes to annex Bunjes Kopecky Boundary Line Mount Olive and Michna Beasley common districts to Shiner ISD Also notes April annexation of Evergreen Lower half and commends board and County Superintendent William Eilers for handling educational matters.

Special notice states Shiner High School baccalaureate services prompt no preaching at the Methodist Church Sunday night. Church services are also canceled Sunday May 27 at 11 30 a m and 8 00 p m because the pastor is away at the annual conference.

William Warnke Rites Held Here Saturday May 12

William F. Warnke of Gonzales died May 10 at 72 years old. He was buried May 12 in Shiner City Cemetery at 2 p.m. after state hold at Buffington Funeral Home. Survivors include Lena Neiser Warnke and eight children. Funeral conducted by Rev. S. R. Horwood with Methodist Church choir.

John Culak Laid At Rest

John Culak a prominent farmer of the Dickson School community died at Shiner Hospital on Sunday May 6 after a short illness. The body lay in state at Smith Funeral Home Moulton with Rosary recited Monday night. Funeral services were at the Funeral Home Tuesday and a Requiem High Mass followed in St Josephs Church. Interment was in Moulton Catholic Cemetery Rev John Matocha officiating. He was born March 1 1878 and died at 73 years 2 months 5 days. Survived by wife Anna Culak five daughters one brother three sisters a son Johnnie who died in World War II and a daughter who died in infancy plus nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Zander's Service Station Wins First League Game

Zander's Service Station beat Shiner Garage 5 to 3 at the High School diamond on Tuesday night April 8. Victor Cortez and Sember pitched well for the losers, with Cortez allowing 5 hits and 14 strikeouts and Sember 6 hits and 10 strikeouts. James Meyer starred for Zander's with a running catch and 2 hits. In the second game Marcak's Auto Supply defeated Garbade's Lumber Co. 4 to 0 as Dennis Caka pitched a one hit no run game, his second victory, while Lawrence Kurtz struck out 15 for Garbade's.
