Shiner Plans Fourth of July Patriotism Event

The community invites the American Legion post to organize a grand patriotic tribute for exservice members. With July 4th on Sunday the celebration may move to Monday July 5th to honor the flag and honor those who served.

A letter from the Jerome Micha Post 94 American Legion flatly thanks Mayor Rank of Shiner Texas and local citizens for their help in the May First Patriotic Celebration. The note, signed by F J Ledwig, praises cooperation and success of the event. Stella Helmers returns home from Yorktown after closing her school term at Davy.

Commencement Notes From Shiner Graduation and Meet

Commencement events include the Baccalaureate Sermon at the Methodist Church on May 16 at 8 15 PM and diplomas for twenty graduates to be presented by Mr T J Ponton. Erwin Kempe won the bronze in the mile at the State Inter scholastic League meet in Austin and helped Shiner place well in Class B with 82 runners overall. The community lauds Kempe's achievement and wishes him congratulations.

Shiner Fair Postponed Indefinitely to June Dates

At a Shiner Fair Association meeting last night the fair was postponed indefinitely to June 23 to 26 due to drought hindering crop exhibits. Officials cited lack of suitable amusement concessions and difficulty obtaining decorations as principal reasons for the delay.

Resolution of Lavaca County Democrats 1920 Declaration

The Lavaca County Democratic assembly on May 4 1920 adopted a resolution praising the national administration of Woodrow Wilson and pledging to uphold states rights and political liberty. It denounces socialism supports a government of equal laws and stresses personal liberty and the commonwealth ideal. The document affirms faith in Democratic principles and the republic’s future.

Gonzales Raises 75 for Better School Campaign

Gonzales Texas May 5 tag day in Gonzales raised $75 for the better school campaign. Shiner contributed $122.09 to the fund.

Landscape Painting study paused by 20th Century Club

The 20th Century Club held a four oclock meeting Thursday deciding to discontinue study until October. May 20 the club meets with Mrs Elo Wolters. The afternoon topic Landscape Painting was led by Miss Carlyne Trautwein with aides Mrs Bd gar Wolters C C Amsler and E G Buske. A lunch of cream and cake was served to guests and members.
