Wilson Texas Letter Reports New Gin and Cattle Trade

In a 1920 April letter from Wilson Texas a writer notes arrival of machinery for a new gin and plans to start work. Emil Wunderlich and Herman Wichel are building the gin while Green Lumsden Co shipped fifty two cars of steers. Woe to Loyd Dawson who broke his leg, grain shipments continue, fruit trees survive frost, and Anton Ahrens welcomes a baby boy.

Large crowd attends Flatonia American Legion celebration

A sizable crowd gathered in Flatonia on May 1 for a Legion celebration. The Shiner Post joined in with many Boosters for the Shiner Fair. The Patek Band provided music, and attendees reported an enjoyable time.

Tag Day for Shiner Supports School Fund Drive

The State Tag Day for Better Schools Campaign raised 122.09 with contributions from Mrs H H Striebeck and a long list of canvassing committees. School children and the High School Baseball Club added small amounts, printing costs were 1.50, Gazetta and Gem Theatre funded advertising, and 120.59 was sent to the County Chairman with half retained locally.

Water and Electricity Rates Hiked Twenty Five Percent

Customers are informed that due to higher fuel and operating costs, water and electricity rates will increase by 25 percent, effective June 1, 1920.

Sunday School Organized at United Dr Martin Luther Church

The United Dr Martin Luther Sunday School was organized Sunday morning with about 60 pupils. Ernestine Mergenthaler was appointed Superintendent for the coming year. English and German classes will grow with pupil numbers and a Sunday School picnic is planned. Attendance invites members and visitors at 9 a.m. each Sunday.

Mothers Day Program at Congregation Event

Hymn Congregation prayers and readings led by Alfred Merse burger include What Motherhood Signifies by Charlie Kasper and Miss You So by Isabel Daniel. The program features various solos duets, remarks by T J Ponton, and a free will mission offering with ushers listed. invitation to attend.

New Epworth League Officers Installed at M E Church

Primary Convention Chooses Delegates To National Meet

The Shi ner precinct held its primary convention with J. Habermacher elected secretary and a committee named F. E. Janecek J. H. Huebner J. C. Habermacher. Delegates selected include A G Liebey Aug Mladenka J J Macha and others to back the Wm Poindexter slate for the National Presidential convention in San Francisco and support the Fort Worth Bailey platform. The meeting adjourned.

Death of Henry Stoeltje in Witting After Short Illness

Henry Stoeltje died at his home in Witting on Wednesday April 28 after a brief illness of influenza pneumonia. Born November 15, 1876 in Welcome, Australia. He married Henrietta Rogge in 1896 and is survived by three children, his brother William J of Witting, a sister Jessa Packebusch, and an aged father William Stoeltje. Funeral services were held April 29 conducted by Rev. Krienke.

The Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick class closed last week. Baptist Church to Rise on Same Lot as Old Building

George Janssen has been chosen to lead the project and oversee construction of a modern bungalow style church. Work will start immediately and the congregation will relocate to the new up to date house of worship soon.

Death of Mrs Rud Monse Miss Kocian

Mrs Monse aged 25 of R 2 died last Friday April 30. Interment was Saturday May 1 in Praha Texas. She formerly was Miss Kocian and left no children. May she rest in peace.
