The Shiner FFA chapter held its annual Father and Son barbecue at Legion Park in Shiner on Thursday March 16. About 135 people attended including fathers as honored guests.

Edwin J Knesek Dies In Moulton Hardware Merchant

Edwin J Knesek a longtime Moulton hardware merchant died suddenly at about 4 55 pm Thursday age 74 2 months 1 day He collapsed at his store and was pronounced dead on arrival at Shiner Hospital He was born January 8 1887 in Schulenburg moved to Moulton in 1902 married Albina Mikulik on June 14 1923 He was a World War I veteran and member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus Funeral services were held March 11 1961 at St Josephs Catholic Church with military honors Interment was in Schulenburg Catholic Cemetery He is survived by his wife one son Elliott Knesek of El Paso one granddaughter Linda Kay Dunigan and two sisters in San Antonio.

Cattle Theft Probed in DeWitt County

Deputy Sheriff Charlie Clark leads a six month cattle rustling probe in DeWitt County with Sheriff Ray Morkowsky and Texas Cattle Raisers Association. Two Cuero men, Simon Hopkins and Booker T. Washington, are charged with theft involving more than 20 cattle. Hopkins posted a $5,000 bond. the other defendant awaits bond.

Annual Barbecue and Shoot by Lavaca County Game Conservation

The Lavaca Colorado Wharton County Game Conservation Association will host its annual barbecue and running deer and ham shoot on Sunday April 30 at O J Woytek Hunting Camp 13 miles east of Hallettsville on Highway 90 A four miles east of Sublime. Dinner at noon with a one dollar membership and 50 cent for children over seven. The event draws hunters from Victoria De Witt Fayette Lavaca Jackson Colorado and Wharton counties and fosters wild game preservation.

John A Cada Placed At Rest Rites At St Marys

John Anton Cada died at his home in the St Marys Community Hallettsville on March 19 1961 at age 70. Funeral services were held March 21 at St Marys Catholic Church with burial in the parish cemetery. He was a farmer and member of St Isidore Society. He is survived by his wife a son and a sister.

Solemn Mass Honors Nada Pastor Jubilee

Father Edmund J. Bily of St. Marys Nada celebrated his Silver Jubilee with a 10 a.m. Solemn Mass at Nada on March 20 presided by Archbishop Robert E. Lucey. Deacon and subdeacon were his nephews Edward and John Bily. Sermon by Msgr. Alois J. Morkovsky. A luncheon followed for clergy. a Sunday evening parish hall reception drew parishioners. Bily, born 1910 in Praha, was ordained in 1936 and served in Shiner and Flatonia before becoming Nada pastor in 1947, building a new school and rectory.
