The Shiner Business Men’s Club Committee invites the community to a Friday night meeting at City Hall on March 24 at 7:30 to organize night softball teams. Attendees will plan regular summer schedules and encourage participation in this popular game.

The United Dr Martin Luther Church invites the community to view the Oberammergau Passion Play shown at City Hall on Friday free-will offering to cover expenses for church needs. Services in German and English include Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and Divine Service at 10:30 a.m. plus Lenten German services and a Saturday session. Reverend Richard Schuetze delivers a gospel message urging belief in Jesus Christ.
The notice lists Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. preaching at 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Wednesday Prayer Meeting at 7:45 p.m., and B T A at 6:30 p.m. All who will are urged to attend.

Gov. W. Lee O'Daniels calls a special election to fill the House vacancy caused by the death of Hon. J. J. Olsen. The April 10 election lists two candidates: Paul C. Boethel of Hallettsville and Reginald Bourke of Yoakum.
Dairy specialist E R Eudaly of Texas A and M Extension Service will address Shiner farmers and dairymen on Thursday March 23 at 8:00 p m at the new City Hall. He will discuss dairying with emphasis on feeding and care of dairy cows. The speaker is noted for clear, practical guidance for those already dairying and those considering a dairy venture to diversify farms.
The Shiner Garden Club will present a lecture and slides on landscaping gardening and designing on Thursday night March 23 at 8 00 at the High School Auditorium. The public is invited and admission is free.
Prof and Mrs E E Darilek of Dickson School mourn the loss of their seven week old son Maxie Frank who died Monday after a brief illness. Survived by parents sister Corrine grandparents Mr and Mrs Frank Simper and Mrs Frank Darilek of Moulton. Local sympathy extends to the bereaved family.
Frank F Michna expresses sincere thanks to friends and customers for patronage during his stay in Shiner. He especially appreciates the liberal support from St Ludmila Academy and values every favor shown as he moves to Florida.
A trustee election at Green School was reduced from eight candidates to three, with the event set for April 1. The change narrows the field while maintaining the vote's schedule and location.

Rep J J Olsen died after a heart attack on Saturday. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Yoakum with a large crowd in attendance. Gov W Lee O Daniel attended and praised Olsen’s legislative service and character. Surviving are his wife Magdalene and two sons Henry and John, five grandchildren, a brother Henry Olsen and two sisters. Pallbearers included James Joseph and Steve Olsen.
Judge E J Motis, 61, Yoakum attorney, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home. He was born in Nebraska on January 6, 1869 and moved to Yoakum in 1917. Funeral services were held at Buffington Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Lipps presiding. Survivors include his wife Carrie Motis, daughter Hyacinth Dobbs, a grandson Jerry Dobbs, three sisters, and three brothers.
Regular meeting of the Business Men's Club is scheduled for seven o'clock at Meyer's Modern Cafe. Luncheon members are asked to bring their March dues.

Fencing of the remaining right of way is nearly complete and culverts are under construction on Highway 200. When finished the road will reopen to traffic and reduce travel distance to Hallettsville.

The Farmers League of Lavaca county elected Theo A Golsch president and Joe A Kouba vice president at a Saturday court house meeting. Leo Ebner became secretary treasurer as plans for a two day Farmers Short Course were set with County Agent King. A legislative committee of J H Elsik and Joe A Kouba was named. compensation five dollars daily in Austin, secretary treasurer salary fifty cents monthly and one cent per member annually. Next mass meeting set for Moravia in early April.
County Judge Paul H Fertsch appointed Joe Kouba from the Boundary section Oscar Foxell from the Hope section and Paulus Poch from Hallettsville as Jury Commissioners for the County Court They are to appear at 9 o clock Friday March 24 to select jurors for the June and September terms of the County Court.
Mrs Agnes Motal aged 81 widow of Frank Motal died at her daughter Ed Petry’s home near Corpus Christi. She was born in Czecho Slovakia in 1858 and came to the United States in 1905. Survived by three sons Louis Henry Joe and two daughters including Ed Petru. Funeral held at Sweet Home Catholic church with interment in the cemetery.

Mrs Willie Zimmerman nee Wilhelm a Hewig died March 1 at age 52 years. Born November 13 1886 in Colorado County she had seven children and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Shiner United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev Schuetze. pallbearers included Fritz Zimmerman Edgar Zimmerman John Tieken Rudy Thiede William Winkenwerder and Herbert Hoerig.
Notice from Mayor of Shiner Lavaca County Texas schedules the April 4 1939 election to choose a Mayor City Secretary and four Aldermen. New City Hall hosts polls from 8 am to 6 pm with presiding judge F R Mergenthaler. Candidates must file ten days before election.
The South Texas Chamber of Commerce sponsored a March 17 farm conference at the Luling Foundation Farm. About fifteen hundred F F A boys farmers and business men attended. Talks covered soil conservation and foundation operations including livestock, dairy, poultry and land use. Guests toured the farm and learned about training programs for area youths. Attendees from Shiner included M. E. Wolters Max L. Wolters Ray Welhausen James Buske L E Denmark Ernest Zappe Willie Schreiber Arthur Schreiber Herman Caka Frank L. Schovajsa.
The Cemetery Association will sponsor a tea on Saturday March 25 at 2 30 p m in the Blohm building. Public cordially invited.
The SHINER INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT board orders an April 1 1939 vote at New City Hall to elect two school trustees. F R Mergenthaler is appointed to run the election under state law, with Paul R Otto as president and H G Hollmann as secretary.
