The Shiner four debaters and Miss Liebhafsky attended a San Antonio debate tournament last weekend March 10 and 11. Murder suspect in two slayings tied to Bexar case
A 29 year old truck driver, arrested at Haymarket Plaza by Ranger Capt. Lee Miller and Special Officer W W Woolsey, is questioned as a suspect in two killings, including the night watchman slaying in Bexar County. He allegedly confessed to the 1935 Riske murder but claimed self defense. Police expect another arrest linked to Ray Owen’s beating death near Antonio on January 7, 1938.

Forty Hours Devotion Ends at Local Catholic Church
The annual Forty Hours of Adoration closed Tuesday with a 9:30 am service. A procession preceded a Te Deum. The spacious church was full each service over three days, about 2500 Holy Communions were given, altars lit with many lights and flowers, with Monsignor Netardus and Father Bily leading a clergy contingent including Reverends G Kuratko H Hug Jos Pustka Jos Kopp and Alb Maneth.

Mrs Anna Kasper Life Remembered In Shiner Rites
Sorrowing relatives gathered March 9 to honor Mrs Anna Kasper who died March 7 at 4 p m. A home service by Rev E Bily led to a Requiem High Mass at the Catholic Church and burial in Shiner City Cemetery with pallbearers Paul Kempe E J Kempe E J Henkhaus Julius Mikulenka Ben Kasper and Edward Kasper. Surviving children are Mrs Paul Kempe Ed A Kasper Ford Kasper, a brother Nick Brod, fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death. She lived a faithful Christian life and rests with her Lord.
