Shiner Eyes Natural Gas Supply via Nearby Line

The Commercial Club aims to bring natural gas to Shiner by routing a line through the town to serve Yoakum Cuero and Gonzales. A Gas Co representative will visit Shiner soon to gauge subscribers and promote gas usage. Natural gas is touted as the world’s cheapest fuel, with wood costs rising in the prairie region.

Juror Ed Herder Is Excused From Liquor Case

Federal Judge Hutcheson excused Ed Herder of Shiner from deliberating a liquor case after Herder said he could not conscientiously follow the law. Hutcheson urged jurors to focus on guilt or innocence and to avoid prejudice for or against prohibition. Herder will serve on other than prohibition cases.

Copy error lists April 4th as election date but first Tuesday in April is April 5th. Ed Herder returned to Houston after spending Sunday at home. Reporters spell his surname Hurder and altered his post office address to China.

Grand jury convened in Lavaca county Spring Term

Judge Lester Holt impaneled a 16 member grand jury. 12 were drawn and sworn. Foreman W T Brian, others named include C B Welhausen and R P Papacek. Court officials and bailiffs listed. Also judge heard a case on a temporary injunction against Yoakum's motor vehicle tax. Hallettsville Herald reports.

Little Theatre plans Easter play engagement at Flatonia

At a Monday business meeting the Little Theatre finalized plans for an engagement at Flatonia this week. The Schulenburg performance netted $42, boosting the local treasury toward $100 and enabling purchase of a makeup study course. Miss Cora Berckenhoff was named instructor and manager of makeup as rehearsals for a new play begin in a few weeks and likely close the season.

Southwest Texas Champions Start Season With Largely Familiar Lineup

The Southwest Texas Champions announce a spring lineup echoing 1926 with Jeff Mikulik likely at first base and Jerry Turek at second. Eppy Lichey, Benno Holchak, S. Turek, Herbert Runk, Spike Garbade, Tom Hughs, and Bill Konecny fill in the infield and outfield while O. S. T. Meyer serves as manager.
