Silver Anniversary Luncheon Celebrates Shiner Club

The Twentieth Century Club held a Feb 28 luncheon at the City Hotel to mark its Silver Anniversary. Mrs S A Thulemeyer presided as toastmistress while Mrs Elo Wolters gave the invocation. Members and guests enjoyed toasts, riddles, a cake cutting, and honors for club elders and February birthdays with floral decor and violet baskets.

From the State University publicity department the Gazette reports Miss Milada Berckenhoff among UT beauties contest selections. Russell Patterson will choose eight co ed pictures for the Cactus year book from sororities boarding houses and dormitories, with Kirby Hall naming Miss Berckenhoff of Shiner.

The 35th Annual General meeting of Branch Society No 1 H P M F St Ins Assn opened March 5th with President Paul Otto. Reports and elections followed including directors and delegates for 1927 28. Shiner High Team Competes in State Tournament at College Station

Accompanied by Coach Jeffrey Mikulik the Shiner High School basketball team journeyed to College Station to face top state contestants. Players included Jerry Turek Kermit Eschenburg Otto J Sofka Kosler Bierman Victor Dziewas Bohman Pip Kasper and Herbert Pohler with a host of supporters. Though defeated the trip marked Shiner on the state map with a vivid radio broadcast of the event and the players' pledge to future glory.

Shiner High Basketball Team Reaches State Tournament

Shiner's basketball team and Jeff Mikulik left for the state tournament in College Station after drawing the state champions Athens in the first round. Athens beat Shiner, but the squad is praised for reaching the state field as one of 16 of 1024 entrants. The Commercial Club and Jeff are thanked by the team, student body, and faculty for support and substitution.

Luther League Home Economy Sale in Merseburger Building

The Luther League will hold a home economy sale next Saturday afternoon at 2 o clock in the Merseburger building. Cabbage on sale on the streets of Shiner next Saturday March 12 at 2 cents per pound.
