Frank Kolar Jr. of Rt 3 Shiner died March 5 1967 in Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital Shiner aged 46. Funeral rites were held March 6 at Smith Funeral Home Moulton and St Josephs Catholic Church with Rev Robert Schmidt officiating. Burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery followed. He is survived by his father Frank Kolar Sr one sister Mildred Pilat of Moulton and one brother Charles Kolar of Moulton.

Chilek Earns Pecan Plaque in South Texas Show
John J. Chilek of Route 2 Yoakum, a pecan grower, received a first prize plaque February 28 at the Cuero short course for top pecans in the South Texas Regional Pecan Show in San Antonio. Texas A&M professor Dr. Benton Storey presented the award. Fred Brinson, vice president of the Texas Pecan Growers Assn., also attended. Chilek’s Guadalupe River orchards earned four awards in the San Antonio entries.

Funeral services for Honter Westphal of Houston were held at Buffington Funeral Chapel in Shiner on February 27 1967. Burial was in Breslau Cemetery. He died February 25 1967 at Hermann Hospital Houston at age 54. He is survived by his wife of Houston a daughter from a former marriage Karen Westphal of Shiner three stepdaughters Melba Kinsel Barbara Campbell Wanda McSwain two sisters Amanda Freye Irene Smith and four step-grandchildren. His parents Willie and Selma Westphal and a son Shelton Westphal died earlier.

Ed J Raab 68 of Odem died February 21 1967 after a long illness. Funeral services were held February 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Linton with Goodwin Funeral Home directing. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery Odem. He was a farmer and lived in Odem 31 years. Survived by wife Norma Gaus Raab a son Laverne Raab four brothers one sister and two grandchildren. His parents and several siblings are noted in the obituary.

The Edwin Wolters Memorial Museum expanded to five rooms with a new south corner display area featuring four large cases and three wall cases. It showcases a doll furniture collection donated by Mrs Isabel Thulemeyer plus a Schoenhut piano, Buck Junior stove, Victorian kitchenware and miniature scenes. Bill Hagendorf and his wife arranged the exhibits with enhanced lighting to echo past history for locals and visitors.

Sixth Regional Science Fair Set For El Campo

New Administrator at Wagner Memorial Hospital
The Wagner Memorial Hospital Board named Clarence A. Barta as administrator. A 1957 Hallettsville High School graduate, he earned a 1961 business degree from Southwest Texas State College. The Bartas plan to move to Shiner as he starts duties on April 1, 1967. Mrs. Kvinta Sr. of Yoakum underwent surgery at Huth Memorial Hospital and is recuperating, going home this week.

Shiner Public Schools invite the community to an Open House on Thursday March 9 from 7 to 10 p m. Departments will showcase new curriculum areas special education and vocal music with displays in the cafetorium and a short musical program led by Miss Nan Lewis. The event features year service awards for staff a science fair with 150 plus entries and a literary program in the library. Visitors may tour the new additions to the Ag shop and the special education cottage and enjoy refreshments in the home making department. The memorial rose in the high school library is dedicated to Mrs Delmar Evelyn Draeger Laas and the book Red Shoes for Nancy is dedicated to her memory. Plan to attend between 7 and 10 p m.
