Obituary notes Frank E Konvicka of Worthing died February 20 1967 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital Shiner after a long illness He led the Worthing Band for 62 years writing music and guiding many engagements His family lineage includes 12 children 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren Funeral services were held February 23 at Kabena Funeral Home and St Marys Catholic Church with burial in Worthing Cemetery.

Dr. Birkman Visits Old Town and Praises Gazette

Dr. Fred Birkman and sister Rosa Flanagen of Austin travel from White Plains New York to their Texas hometown each year. He recalls work at the Gazette Office as a hand typesetter and with the Vaughans Ideal printing press. He commends the Gazette for growing in prestige and equipment during the visit.

Six Flags Blue and Gold Banquet Highlights Pack 231

Cub Scouts of Pack 231 hosted their Blue and Gold Banquet on February 23 1967 at Shiner High School Cafeteria with a Texas theme. Awards were given to Den 1 Den 2 and Den 3 and Eagle Scout ceremonies performed for Douglas Kubicek and Madison Cloutier.

Last Rites For Mrs Chas Balusek

Funeral services for Annie Balusek of 1533 Ormond Street Corpus Christi were held at Ku bena Funeral Home Hallettsville and the Czech Moravian Brethren Church at Vsetin. Burial was in Vsetin Cemetery. She died February 20 1967 in Memorial Hospital Corpus Christi at 10 17 p m aged 64. Survivors include four sons Richard Ervin Lester and Carl Balusek two daughters Gladys Prochaska and Margie Guthrie three brothers Julius August and Victor Sevcik five sisters Vlasta Muenich Gussie Tombessom Lillie Janca Minnie Schoenfeld and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband Charles A Balusek and son Donald Ray Balusek. Attendees from Shiner listed.

Public School Week Invites Texas Parents March 6 to 10

Public School Week runs March 6 through 10 inviting parents to visit classrooms, view new facilities and staff, and see ongoing learning. Open house Thursday March 9 features department exhibits in the cafetorium, with special education and vocal music displays, a science fair directed by Edwin Winn, and awards at 7:30 p.m.

Douglas Kubicek Receives Eagle Award At Blue and Gold Banquet

Douglas Joseph Kubicek earned the Eagle Award at the Cub Pack 231 Blue and Gold Banquet on February 23 1967. The 14 year old son of Mr and Mrs Steve Kubicek of Shiner joined Scouting in 1960 and advanced through Wolf Bear Lion to Webelos. He has served as Den Chief and patrol leader and attended Camp Tom Wooten trainings. He holds twenty three merit badges twenty one of which are Eagle required and is a Shiner High School freshman active in football and church activities.

Shiner Trail Riders Plan Sunday Ride to Hochheim Picnic Grounds

Weather permitting the Shiner Trail Riders will depart Herder's Store on Farm to Market Road 533 at 9 00 am Sunday March 5 for a ride to the John Chilek picnic grounds at Hochheim on the Guadalupe River for a picnic dinner. Riders return to Herder's Store after dinner. Bring your dinner and join the day with the riders. Everyone is welcome.

Rates Cut on Princess Phones by Southwestern Bell

Southwestern Bell Telephone announces a March 1 rate cut for Princess phones from 75 cents to 50 cents per month. Manager G. W. Richards says the reduction adds to prior long distance and miscellaneous rate decreases, delivering about six million dollars in annual savings to Texas customers.

Cub Pack 232 Blue And Gold Banquet Held

In observance of National Scout Week Cub Scout Pack 232 Shiner held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet at Casa Fiesta Restaurant on February 13 1967 at 7 00 pm The event featured a four tier birthday cake commemorating the 57th anniversary of Scouting in America decorated blue and gold with Cub Scout badge titles and topped by the U S Flag and a Cub Scout figurine Cubmaster Gus Kovalcik welcomed attendees after Felix Hubner Knights of Columbus spoke grace and a fried chicken meal was served with blue and gold place settings.

Seventh Annual Science Fair Opens at Shiner Parochial School

Shiner Parochial School hosts Lavaca County's oldest science fair with 150 projects from St. Paul High School and St. Ludmila's Junior High. Judges include Nazareth Academy Victoria Baptist Academy San Marcos and Shiner staff. Public invited March 5 with free admission.

Shiner High to Host KONO DJs vs SHS Faculty Game

The SHS Juniors sponsor a KONO DJ game Friday March 10 1967 at SHS Gym. SHS faculty will challenge the DJ's with 50 cent admission for adults and 35 cents for students. Game starts at 7 30 p m. Refreshments available and all are invited.

Death Notice for Herman Raab Sr of Odem

Word was received of the death of Herman Raab Sr age 78 years and 9 days. He passed away February 22 1967. Funeral services were held February 23 in Alice. He was married to Margaret Hirsch of Shiner, a survivor. Other relatives in the Shiner area include Mrs Rudolph Billimek and brothers Frank Anton John Raab.
