South Central Texas Amateur League members from six clubs met at the Weimar fire station to map the 1960 season. Plans call for a 14 game schedule with two four three playoff format if eight clubs are in, or 15 games with two four three semis and three five finals if only six clubs enter. Chas W Priebe of La Grange was elected secretary treasurer for the third year. president and vice president to be chosen March 13.
Fort y Hours Devotion begins Friday morning March 4 at 6 o clock Mass and ends Sunday night with 7 30 devotions. Devotions run Friday Saturday and Sunday at 7 30 p m. Confessions offered Friday and Saturday 4 to 6 p m and after devotions each night.

Charles Otto Miculka 83 died February 20 1960 at Bastrop Hospital. He lived in Smithville many years and was a retired farmer. Survived by wife Albina, three sons Ed Raymond Anton, three daughters Albina Janca Lydia Merrem Sylvia Knape, ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Several sons predeceased.

J M Canon of Shiner will celebrate his 90th birthday on Saturday March 5. His children and grandchildren plan to attend the weekend gathering from Elmhurst New York Liberty Hill Freeport Houston Austin and Shiner with Eula Schultz and E J Kempe also mentioned.
John F. Novak, 67, of Flatonia, died February 26 in Santa Rosa Hospital San Antonio after a short illness. He lived in Flatonia all his life, was a farmer, born January 19, 1893, and married Agnes Tupa on February 13 1917. Survivors include his wife two daughters two sons four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral Mass at Flatonia Catholic Church February 28 with Rev Kahlich. interment Praha Cemetery. The Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Men holds its annual convention Sunday at the Hilton in San Antonio drawing about 750 delegates from a 32 county area. Dr. John C Hayes delivers the luncheon address while topics include committee reports and officer elections.
The Shiner Independent School District schedules a trustee election for Saturday April 2 1960 to fill two seats expiring in April John O Cook and George Griffin. Candidates must file with secretary Robert Sterling by March 3 1960 to appear on the ballot.
Fritz Ebert died in Houston Tuesday March 1 after a lingering illness. Funeral arrangements were pending at press time. Remains were due to arrive in Shiner Wednesday afternoon at Buffington Funeral Home.

A Social Security Office representative from Victoria will visit Shiner City Hall at 9:30 AM on Monday March 7. Residents may file retirement survivor or disability benefit claims and get program assistance.
Funeral services were held in Yoakum on Saturday February 27 at 10 45 am for George Shimek 53 of Route 3 Yoakum with Rev Father Edward J Jansky officiating at Buffington Chapel St Josephs Catholic Church and Cemetery Shimek born December 4 1906 died February 25 at 10 30 pm at Huth Memorial Hospital Yoakum Survived by Roberta Shimek of Yoakum two sons George Shimek Jr and Robert Shimek both of Yoakum two daughters Mrs Dennis Wick and Miss Sheri Shimek both of Yoakum two grandchildren three brothers William Shimek of Shiner Julius and Frank Shimek of Yoakum one sister Mrs Mary Horky of Edna Rosary held at Buffington Chapel Friday night at 8 o clock.
Thousands attended the funeral for Dr Louis B S Richter a Yoakum physician who died February 27 at 1 00 am at his home 408 Coke Street He was 49 years old born January 26 1911 in Shiner educated at Schreiner Kerrville UT Austin UT Medical School Galveston and served in Yoakum since 1937 Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery Holy Cross Lutheran Church officiated by Rev D I Dalton and Dr Paul Bechter Pallbearers listed The late physician was active in Masonic Lodge Shriners Lions Club and DeWitt County Medical Society The service drew hundreds of mourners and flowers filled the church and annex the same day proceedings honored a life of service to family friends and community.
Frank Kloda of Route 2 Yoa kum died February 25 at Wagner Hospital at 70. Survivors include his wife Anna and daughter Annie Omakal. Funeral services were held February 27 at Buffington Funeral Home and Shiner Catholic Church with Requiem High Mass. Burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
The city council set Tuesday April 5 1960 as the election date to elect two aldermen. Aldermen Ray Welhausen and August H. Maneth will have their terms expire this year. Filing to run must be completed with City Secretary Erwin W. Stratman by midnight March 5.
Explorer Scouts Post 232 conducted a house-to-house collection for the American Heart Association netting 94.20 dollars. The chairman and Explorers thank all contributors aiding heart disease research. Local groups and firms that have not yet contributed may still do so to the Local Heart Fund in Shiner Texas.
