Menke a prominent Denhawken farmer and rancher were held at 2 30 p m on Father's Day June 19 1966 at Finch Funeral Home Chapel Nixon Ministers were A C Strong and Wilfred R Menke nephews served as pallbearers. He died June 17 1966 at Nixon Nursing Home born May 27 1891 in Linden He married Minnie Nolte and had two daughters and two sons in law Survivors include wife two daughters two sons in law grandchildren sisters and a brother The family joined in baptism and confirmation rites in Lutheran churches.

Lifesaving Course In Schulenburg Sets July Schedule

A senior lifesaving course will be taught at the Veterans Memorial Pool in Wolters Park Schulenburg from July 11 to July 15 with a $1.50 pool charge. Junior lifesaving is a prerequisite. Nev lud Auto Located In Austin In 1953 Ford Theft Case

William Kirk Shiner chief of police led an investigation after a 1953 Ford was stolen from Shiner on June 19. Five local youths in a red 1962 Chevrolet were identified. James Earl Demps 18 was taken into custody in Austin and charged as the driver. The car was found in a body shop in drying paint. a Lavaca County felony auto theft warrant was issued.

Robbery Spree Hits Yoakum Grain Inc Facility

Burglars raided the rear shop area of Yoakum Grain Inc on West Gonzales Street Friday night June 17 stealing over 1500 dollars worth of equipment and appliances. Police and sheriff patrols followed clues Saturday morning.

Baytown Funeral Held for Mr and Mrs John Emmette Smith

Funeral services were held in Baytown on Tuesday May 31 1966 for John Emmette Smith age 35 and his wife Barbara Maxine Smith of Austin who died in a May 28 car crash on Loop 111. Also killed was their child or children and a Renault driver Windy L Williams. The Smiths were en route to Corpus Christi when their 1965 Volkswagen collided head on with Williams 20. Williams was the daughter of a Bergstrom Air Force Base deputy commander. The Smith children were injured and hospitalized. John Emmette Smith served as a captain in the Air Force during the Korean War and worked as a service installation engineer for Texas Nuclear Corporation. Barbara Smith was born January 27 1934 in Baytown. Surviving relatives include both families and several Baytown Shiner Gonzales and Houston attendees at the services.
