The Cloutier family enjoyed two days at Rockport while Peck Welhausen and companions vacationed there for a week.

Thomas J. Pesek a Jourdan ton resident and long time farmer died June 11 1966 after months of illness. Funeral services were held June 13 at St Matthew's Catholic church Jourdanton with Rev Anthony Pesek and Rev Wenzel Lieb officiating. Interment followed at Jourdanton Catholic cemetery. He was born April 4 1885 in Fayette county and lived in Atascosa county 35 years. He married Lillie Kallus in 1912 and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1962. Surviving are three daughters and nine sons with numerous grandchildren and siblings. He was a member of St Matthew's church and KJT lodge. Arrangements were with Lange Funeral Home.

Crash Near Hallettsville Claims Life
Tommy Christen 22 of Houston formerly Hallettsville died at 1 30 am Monday after a three car collision on US 77 ten miles north of Hallettsville. His wife Mildred Goodrich in critical condition. Eliadora Garcia 49 of Chicago also died later Tuesday. Third car occupants uninjured. Funeral arrangements pending.

Shiner residents Arthur Kaspar and wife Don Kaspar with family attended the Rotary International convention in Denver from June 12 to June 16 1966. It drew over 1500 Rotarians from 110 countries as speakers included Dean Rusk Lord Caradon and astronaut L Gordon Cooper Jr. A music festival at Red Rocks and a Western show at the Denver Coliseum highlighted the event. Rotary in Shiner links to 12 400 clubs and 600 000 members in 133 countries.

Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Warnke were held June 15 1966 at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner with Rev. Edwin J Oehlke officiating. Interment followed at Shiner City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lee Master Warnke Robert Warnke Clarence Warnke Willie Kovalcik and Billie Gene Goetz. Mrs Warnke died June 13 1966 after a seven week hospital stay including a stroke and pneumonia at Whispering Pines Nursing Home Houston. She was 79. She was born April 18 1887 in Moulton Texas and later lived in Shiner Palacios Crosby and Crosby. She married Adolph Mueller first and Willie Warnke second. Surviving are four daughters two sons Bill M Warnke and Alice Kovalcik of Crosby plus 26 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her first husband died 1920 and second 1958. She was preceded by her parents three brothers and one sister.

The Shiner Independent School District board met June 8 with five trustees present. They approved changes to the science department adding a biology lab, accepted the resignation of band director Thomas G Bowman, authorized purchasing a new boiler and electronic control panel, offered incentive aid to teachers for summer study, and reported the 1965 66 average daily attendance at 563.85. Invoices were approved and the meeting adjourned.

Lavaca County appoints Sam S. Devall as attorney
Hallettsville June 14 Lavaca County Commissioners Court named Sam S. Devall to succeed James Evans as county attorney. The appointment takes effect June 20 when Evans vacates the office to join the Texas attorney general’s office in Austin. Devall was previously serving as postmaster.
611 X rays At TB Mobile Unit in Shiner
The Shiner community mob ile X ray unit at Legion Park drew 611 people on Friday June 17. Many could not wait in long lines to be served. Organizers thanked American Legion Post No. 201 for park and hall use and praised all helpers for a successful event.

Forged Checks Passed In Shiner
Shiner police chief Bill Kirk says Cicero Foley was caught last weekend trying to pass a forged 29.50 check at Elo's. Foley, on parole after nine months at Gatesville, allegedly cashed two prior checks for 17.95 at Elkins and 28.50 at Elo's. The checks were written to James Ray Smith on John Raab First National Bank of Shiner, a bank with no account in the name.
