Pioneer Freighters Shaping Texas Trade Across the Frontier

Services Held For Mrs Albert Sauer

Mrs. Albert Aloisia Sauer died June 18 1955 at age 80. Born July 24 1874 in Engleswalt Austria she came to the United States at 11 settling in Flatonia Texas. She married Albert Sauer in 1896 and the family lived in Dreyer Keck Westhoff and Yoakum. Funeral services were held June 19 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church Yoakum with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Altar Society Meets June 14

The Altar Society gathered on Tuesday June 14 with President Mrs Paul Stock presiding. Forty nine members answered roll call and Mrs Henry Frers Sr visited. Nominating committee was formed with Mrs A A Darilek Sr Mrs Wilbert Bender and Rud Billimek serving. Hostesses for July listed. The meeting concluded with prayer and a plate lunch served.

John Selzer Rites In Moulton

Death came to Mr. John Selzer Saturday at his son’s home in Little New York after years of ill health. He was born in Texas, married Rosie Divin in Praha, and farmed locally. Services at Smith Funeral Home and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church were led by Rev. Matocza with burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include three children and seven grandchildren. one brother and two sisters also survive. Pallbearers were Dan Wawrowsky, Emil Divin, Chas Frey, Chas Kremling, Louis Kremling, and Paul Selzer.

Mrs. Sophie Gaertner Rites Held in Floresville

Mrs. Sophie Gaertner aged 84 died June 7 1955 after two years bedridden. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church Floresville with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Survivors include sons Frank and Joe daughters Annie Merecka Frances Gaertner grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lavacans Fall as Shiner Downs Lavacans on Zander Field

Shiner beat Lavacans 9 to 5 at Zander Field in Shiner on Sunday June 19 for their second win of the South Central Texas League season. Errors plagued Lavacans with seven misplays as Shiner built a three run first inning and added in each of the next two frames. Lavacans out hit the Shiner lineup but failed to capitalize with runners on base, while Shiner staged late offense scoring in the seventh and eighth. Fric pitched for Shiner allowing 12 hits with four strikeouts and one walk, Alvin Bollom worked all nine for Hallettsville allowing 10 hits with five strikeouts.

FHA Leadership Workshop Held At Palacios

The Area III Leadership Workshop took place June 7 to 10 at Palacios with attendees Barbara Turek Barbara Henkhaus Clarice Huber Beatrice Schroeder and Miss Nancy Ross from Shiner. The event aimed to train FHA officers and members provide youth with FHA experiences teach teamwork sponsor training and plan the year’s program. The participants enjoyed the sessions and gained new knowledge about their FHA offices.

Rites Held for W B Kennard in Gonzales

Private funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah for William Blake Kennard who died June 10 in Beaver Pennsylvania. Interment was in Masonic cemetery. Survivors include his wife and one daughter Linda, his parents Hartwell and Elea nor Kennard, a brother Hartwell J. Kennard Jr., a sister Mrs S B Derounian, and his grandmother Mrs J B Kennard. The father traveled from Pennsylvania for arrangements. Kennard was born January 25 1929 in Gonzales and attended Gonzales schools and Texas A M after high school in Buffalo. He served two years in the Marines.

E A Minear Rites Held At Clark Baptist Church

Rites for E A Minear were held Wednesday at 3 30 p m from the Clark Baptist church. He died Monday afternoon at his Clark home after a year long illness. The Rev Frank Stone and the Rev Simms conducted the service and burial is in Harwood cemetery. Minear was a prominent Clark farmer and a member of the Methodist church who adopted modern farming methods until illness retired him.

Shiner Gypsy Patrol Troop 5 Benefit Show

The Gypsy Patrol Troop 5 of Shiner sponsors an entertainment evening at Shiner High School Gym on Wednesday June 29 at 8 pm. Sandwiches and soft drinks will be served after. Gonzales County Savings declares eleven semiannual dividend

The Gonzales County Savings and Loan Association boards declare an 3 percent per annum semiannual dividend for six months, payable June 30 to about 1,000 account holders. President Lynn Smith cites growth with over 2.2 million in savings, 2.1 million loaned, and 145 thousand in capital and reserves, as assets exceed 2.45 million.

Farm Bureau Queen's Contest Saturday July 23

Lavaca County Farm Bureau to hold its third annual Queen's Contest Saturday July 23 at the Pavilion at 8 00 p m followed by a Queen's Ball. Contest rules specify entrants be daughters or sisters of Farm Bureau members ages 16 to 22 by September 11 195 and exclude state directors employees county officers and prior state winners. Rotary talk on farming shift at Shiner meeting

The Shiner Rotary Club held a Monday noon gathering at the Shiner Dine Inn with visiting Rotarians Festus Carroll and Eli Rubin. Mayor M. I. Bozka spoke on farm to city migration and cotton allotments, urging farmers to join the Old Cotton Belt Association for fair acreage and noting plans to sponsor the Gypsy Patrol in the July 4 parade.

Knights of Columbus Elect Fourth Degree Officers

The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree elect officers at their last meeting led by Monsignor Netardus Assembly.
