Texas Press Association banquet marks largest attendance in history

Mr and Mrs Lee Sedimeyer joined nearly 600 newspaper workers at the Galvez Hotel Galveston for the Texas Press Association banquet with Vice President Richard A Nixon as guest speaker. The two day session was noted as the most instructive and profitable yet. The report highlights other regional events including rodeos watermelons and a large firemen gathering.

Country Store Saturday at City Hall by VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Shiner Memorial Post Now 6209 will hold a country store at City Hall starting at 2 00 p m Saturday June 18. Homemade items will be on sale and everyone is invited to attend.

Shiner Rotary Club backs local pony league funds and focus

The Shiner Rotary Club supports a teenage pony league with four teams from Shiner Moulton Hallettsville and Yoakum for ages 13 and 14. The group has spent about 200 dollars on new uniforms and equipment as part of juvenile delinquency prevention efforts. Funeral services were held for Oswald Podsim, 74, at Mollenhauer Chapel and St John s Lutheran Church Westhoff after his self inflicted death. He left a wife Jane who died in 1919 and is survived by two sons a daughter eight grandchildren and several relatives. The Podsim family attended the services and the article advocates family involvement in youth recreation.

First Cotton Bale At Edinburg Marks 1955 Start

The first 1955 cotton bale was picked on June 8 near Edinburg and ginned in Hidalgo County. Growers Jerry Block and Will Wallace expect about $4,500 from the Harlingen auction with a $1,500 grower bonus, after a 457 pound bale plus 930 pounds of seed were processed. The bale moved from the Wallace gin to Harlingen for auction in about a week.

St Johns Parish Feast Planned for June 26

St John the Baptist Parish announces an all day picnic on Sunday June 26 at St Johns. Masses at 6 and 7:30 a.m. Family style meals at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. priced one dollar for adults and fifty cents for children. Music by Walter Schoenvogel and orchestra.

Congratulations to families in Fort Worth Shiner Moulton Hallettsville and surrounding areas as babies arrive at Wagner Hospital and Carswell AFB Hospital during late May and June. Social Evening at United Dr Martin Luther Church

A church social hosted by the Ladies Aid at United Dr Martin Luther Church is set for Friday June 17 at 7:00 p.m. A choice menu will be served by the congregation's ladies. An exhibition of hand-work by Vacation Bible School pupils will be shown, marking the program's close.

Annual State Championship High School Rodeo Opens June 22

About 300 contestants compete for a chance to reach the National event in Harrison Nebraska. Stoeltje Fatally Injured In Kansas Auto Crash

William Stoeltje 29, son of Mr and Mrs W A Stoeltje of Seguin Road, was fatally injured in an auto accident near Larned Kansas on June 5 while en route to work. He died Tuesday morning in a hospital there. Survived by parents wife and two children he is uncle of William A Coldeway of New Braunfels. Body sent to Kennedy for burial Friday at 4 p m.

Hauschildt Rites Tuesday in Shiner Lutheran Church

Funeral services for Henry J. Hauschildt age 77 were held Tuesday afternoon June 14 1955 at 3 00 p m from Buffington Funeral Home Shiner continuing to United Dr Martin Luther Church Interment was in Shiner City Cemetery He died Sunday June 12 in the local hospital after ten days as a patient Survivors include six children eleven grandchildren four sisters and three brothers with one son in Seguin and another in Columbus The Rev Edwin J Oehlke officiated and the Lutheran Choir sang during the services.

Sudden Death of W Kubicek Shocks Family

W Kubicek died after a stroke in Shiner at age 68 7 25. He was born in Praha and married Mary Grill Picha in 1914. Survived by wife stepdaughter Mary Adamek two grand and two great grand children and many siblings with service and interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Bible School Opens June 20

The Methodist and Baptist Vacation Bible School begins Monday morning June 20 at 8 30 with Mrs E A Ross as director general. Faculty includes Miss Mabel Merrem Juniors Mrs Edward Kasper Primary Messes Barbara Henkhaus and Barbara Turek Beginners Mrs R A Williford and Mrs Bob Sterling Kindergarten Mrs Otto Turek and Mrs Harry C Fisher Nursery.
