Corpus Christi Celebration at Shiner

A very large crowd gathered for the Corpus Christi Feast in Shiner on Sunday June 19. After Mass a procession of the Blessed Sacrament with societies flower girls parishioners and visitors visited four altars on the church grounds. The celebration closed with Te Deum sung. Rev Ed Bily led the services. Patek s Band provided music for the procession.

The Lutheran Ladies Aid expresses sincere thanks to all who helped make the Ice Cream Social a success. The event realized a sum of 78 dollars and 75 cents.

J W Burns pastor leads Sunday School at 10 a m and preaching at 11 a m at the Baptist Church. Culpepper, mission from China, will speak Sunday morning June 26 and only at the morning service. Sunday night service is canceled so worshipers may attend the Methodist Church meeting. Prayer meeting is Wednesday at 8 p m.

Edith Kubecka daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Kubecka wed Charlie Kurtz of San Antonio son of Mr and Mrs Jake Kurtz in a 9:00 am ceremony at St Cyril and Methodius Church. Mons L P Netardus presided with daisies and candles adorning the altar. Bridesmaids and groomsmen wore pink net and dark suits respectively. After a wedding dinner at the bride's home the couple planned a brief honeymoon and will reside in San Antonio where the groom is employed.

A large crowd gathered at the local parish hall Monday night to surprise Monsignor L. P. Netardus on his feast day. Patek's Band provided music as guests enjoyed a bountiful supper and refreshments and offered wishes for many more years of happiness and health.

Beatrice Zappe Crowned Duchess of Shiner at Health Festival

Miss Beatrice Zappe was chosen Duchess of Shiner to represent Shiner at the Health Festival in Mineral Wells last weekend. The coronation occurred at Convention Hall on Saturday evening at 7 30 with Langdon White of Dallas escorting her. The Junior Chamber of Commerce of Mineral Wells sponsored the festival, chaired by Dr. H Arthur Zappe.

Man Killed On Highway Near Sulphur Park

Richard Mueck a 55 year old familiar figure deaf and dumb was run down and killed by a car on the highway near Sulphur Park Swimming Pool on a Saturday night between 8 and 9 o clock. Alfred Filipp a Moulton youth driving toward Shiner was blinded by headlights and the collision occurred on the bridge near the swimming pool. Dr Boyle arrived too late and an inquest was led by A J Darilek of Moulton. Mueck had worked for the Kurtz and Darilek families 38 years and is survived by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral held at Moulton Monday.

New Church Blessed at Dilworth Sunday

The new Catholic Church at Dilworth was blessed Sunday by Rt. Rev. Msgr. L P Netardus for His Excellency Archbishop Arthur J Drossaerts. Assisted by Rev. James Wichterich. Sermons were in Czech and English. A large crowd attended the morning ceremonies and the following picnic. In the afternoon several candidates spoke.

Mrs. Irene Davis officiated as installing officer and Mrs. Minnie Henkhaus served as marshal during the EastenStar installation in Shiner Chapter.
