A very large crowd gathered for the Corpus Christi Feast in Shiner on Sunday June 19. After Mass a procession of the Blessed Sacrament with societies flower girls parishioners and visitors visited four altars on the church grounds. The celebration closed with Te Deum sung. Rev Ed Bily led the services. Patek s Band provided music for the procession.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid expresses sincere thanks to all who helped make the Ice Cream Social a success. The event realized a sum of 78 dollars and 75 cents.
United Dr Luther Church announces 9 a m divine service 10 a m Dreyer 8 p m German service Bible Study and meditation follow the gospel reading John 5 39 declare the Bible not for amusement but to reveal sin and salvation through Christ Jesus preached by Richard Schuetze.
Rev. O. C. Schreiner, Lutheran pastor of Smithville, will conduct a German service at 10 a.m. Sunday June 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shiner. All members are urged to attend and visitors are welcome for a timely Bible message. O. C. Schreiner, Pastor.
The weekly Christian Science Lesson-Sermon will be read in Christ Scientist churches on Sunday June 26 at 11 a.m. The Golden Text from Isaiah 35 10 proclaims the ransomed shall return to Zion with songs and everlasting joy, and sorrow shall flee. Joy is not in things it is in us. Wagner.
Beginning next Sunday the pastor Rev A Guyon will lead a series of meetings at the Methodist Church. He is assisted by Rev J C Wilson of Weimar. The public is cordially invited to attend the services.
J W Burns pastor leads Sunday School at 10 a m and preaching at 11 a m at the Baptist Church. Culpepper, mission from China, will speak Sunday morning June 26 and only at the morning service. Sunday night service is canceled so worshipers may attend the Methodist Church meeting. Prayer meeting is Wednesday at 8 p m.
Lavaca County issued cotton acreage allotments for 1938 ten days earlier. Producers must visit the office to break down farm details and complete new worksheets for state allocation, with serial numbers applying to each allotment.
Mr and Mrs Herbert Holchak and son Herbert Jr of Kerrville plus extended Holchak relatives from Robstown Kenedy and Yorktown were guests in the Peck Welhausen home. The group joined Mrs S J Holchak and others to Kenedy Thursday. Visitors from Houston and Sandia joined Breithaupts and Wolters family members in Shiner and Yorktown.
Edith Kubecka daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Kubecka wed Charlie Kurtz of San Antonio son of Mr and Mrs Jake Kurtz in a 9:00 am ceremony at St Cyril and Methodius Church. Mons L P Netardus presided with daisies and candles adorning the altar. Bridesmaids and groomsmen wore pink net and dark suits respectively. After a wedding dinner at the bride's home the couple planned a brief honeymoon and will reside in San Antonio where the groom is employed.
Miss Margaret Schindler and Mr. Gus Haselbeck wed at eight in the morning with Judge A Lichey officiating. Witnesses were K Spoetzl and J Chotenovsky. Bride wore navy georgette and pink blue lilies corsage. groom gray suit. They plan a Carlsbad trip then reside in a cottage gift from the bride’s parents.

Shiner tops Yoakum 15 to 2 in Lavaca County Loop League action. Pitcher Afflerback and Menkhaus split the mound duties, with six innings pitched and one hit allowed by the former. Yoakum's hitting showcased strong form as the game opened at 1:30 with a festive crowd.

Leo Hybner and Ed Havel visited Hybner's daughter confined at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston on Tuesday. Fritz Heers and Jim Raindel groups visited family members in Austin Sunday. Ida Reichardt RN of La Grange Hospital Staff spent a week with her parents in La Grange. Martin Fiedler of Luling and George Rogge family with Ann Nell Robstown and Ray Beckman of Yorktown were guests in Theo Rogge’s home last week.
The Shiner Garden Club met at Mrs Jos Muras home on Friday June 17 The Flower Show date shifted from November 19 to November 18 Judge S J Mitchell returns to judge The next meeting will be a picnic at Sulphur Park Swimming Pool on Friday July 15
The Business Men's Club will hold its regular meeting on Thursday June 23 at 7 o clock at the Palace Cafe. All members are urged to attend.
A large crowd gathered at the local parish hall Monday night to surprise Monsignor L. P. Netardus on his feast day. Patek's Band provided music as guests enjoyed a bountiful supper and refreshments and offered wishes for many more years of happiness and health.
A Sunday celebration at Witting drew a large crowd with multiple speakers including Paul Boethel C L Stavinoha J J Olsen J F Bozka D L Hudson Fred Fehrenkamp A P McElroy Morris Strunk Frank McGrew Chas Mac Donald Wm Eilers and T H McDonald who spoke for LeMay for State Superintendent A dinner was served Beano and other games were enjoyed Adolph Migl's Orchestra performed and $488.69 was collected from the event.
Miss Beatrice Zappe was chosen Duchess of Shiner to represent Shiner at the Health Festival in Mineral Wells last weekend. The coronation occurred at Convention Hall on Saturday evening at 7 30 with Langdon White of Dallas escorting her. The Junior Chamber of Commerce of Mineral Wells sponsored the festival, chaired by Dr. H Arthur Zappe.
Miss Patsy Johnson of Gonzales visits her aunt Mrs. Lee Sedlmeyer this week. Eddie and Paul Berckenhoff take a vacation this week. Mrs. Eula Schultz and Miss Emily Schovossa of Austin spent the weekend with relatives. Otto Fissler and family, and Ruby Oscar and Sonny, leave for California to visit Eli Fissler and see the West. Sergeant Beverly P. Ruth of Randolph Field and family transfer to Atlanta, with best wishes from friends. O. H. Deutsch, E. H. Willman and families spend Thursday at Wimberly. Sgt. and Mrs. John Marcus and daughter visit Monsignor Netardus in Schulenburg.
Richard Mueck a 55 year old familiar figure deaf and dumb was run down and killed by a car on the highway near Sulphur Park Swimming Pool on a Saturday night between 8 and 9 o clock. Alfred Filipp a Moulton youth driving toward Shiner was blinded by headlights and the collision occurred on the bridge near the swimming pool. Dr Boyle arrived too late and an inquest was led by A J Darilek of Moulton. Mueck had worked for the Kurtz and Darilek families 38 years and is survived by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral held at Moulton Monday.
The new Catholic Church at Dilworth was blessed Sunday by Rt. Rev. Msgr. L P Netardus for His Excellency Archbishop Arthur J Drossaerts. Assisted by Rev. James Wichterich. Sermons were in Czech and English. A large crowd attended the morning ceremonies and the following picnic. In the afternoon several candidates spoke.
Mrs. Irene Davis officiated as installing officer and Mrs. Minnie Henkhaus served as marshal during the EastenStar installation in Shiner Chapter. New officers include Alma Kempe as Worthy Matron and W. C. Schmidt as Worthy Patron with Eva McDonald as Associate Matron and E. J. Sec. Leonita Valenta as Associate Patron. Others named include Emma Runk treasurer Tommie Amsler conductress Lassie Wolters associate conductress Isabel Thulemeyer chaplain Ernestine Mergenthaler organist Lillie Wendtland Ada Ethel Hepler Ruth Minnie Henkhaus Esther Millie Hajek Martha Alvina Wolters Electa Hettie Buske Warden Mae Hughs Sentinel H. H. Hepler.
Arnold Bailey thanks the doctors and nurses for their care during illness at the local hospital. He also expresses appreciation to friends for visits flowers and messages of cheer.
