Charlottenburg 13 year old wins A M short course trip

Calvin Hinze of Charlottenburg a 4 H Club member earns a free trip to the A M short course with all expenses paid. The event runs July 6 to 8 at the A M College after he was awarded for caring for seven sheep yielding 62 pounds of wool. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Paul F Hinze and lauded for his achievement.

Baptist Notes On A Crowded Sunday Service

The Baptist Church held a large morning service last Sunday featuring missionary Bro. Chas. Culpepper who spoke with firsthand information. Attendance was the largest since the pastor’s arrival, and a significant baptismal service occurred at Waelder as a result of Saturn’s sermon series. Association worker Robert R. Patterson stayed a few days to assist with Sunday School work and establish a preaching plan.

Three Negroes Die In Cold Blood Murderer Escapes

A triple murder occurred at Otis Shelton’s home near town on Sunday night. Mose Shelton shot Evia Mae Shelton Williams Lizzie Caesar and killed them before fleeing. Bloodhounds tracked him briefly Monday but the suspect vanished into the night. Local pursuit continued with Deputy Sheriff and posse members.

Expression and Public Speaking Offered in Shiner

Shiner will offer a special instructor in Expression and Public Speaking this fall. Mrs. Ella E. Lane resumes her former profession after studying the Curry System and completing a review course. Local Farmers League Elects Officers in Hallettsville

A meeting of Lavaca County Farmers League presidents was held in Hallettsville Court House on Saturday June 25 at 8:00. O E Hermes Sweet Home was named President Jaro Kouba Shiner Vice President and Leo Ebner Koerth Secretary Treasurer. The Lavaca County County Convention will be at Sulphur Park early August with date to be announced. Hallettsville branch meets in late July.

Swimming Party at Sulphur Park Brings Club and Parents Together

Last Friday evening June 24 the Lutheran Junior Choral Club members and some of their parents enjoyed a swimming party and lunch at Sulphur Park. The group shared sandwiches chips cookies cakes and soda in a wholesome gathering. A most delightful evening was enjoyed by all.

Murderer Ends Fatal Relatives Shooting at Hallettsville

In a disturbing act at a Hallettsville yard, a man killed multiple relatives and two escaped girls fled. Lizzie Caesar and Charlie Williams died in Dunner Hospital within hours and Monday morning respectively, while police consider possible insanity upon motive and plan. Otis Shelton was away in Goliad at the time.

Girls 4H Camp a Big Success at Blucher Park

Forty two 4 H club girls attended a county wide camp at Blucher Park from June 23 to 24 with seven clubs represented. Annie Apts presided, Ollie Vrana acted as secretary, and delegates introduced themselves. The event featured games, etiquette talk, songs, hikes, and folk activities.

The Business Men's Club met June 23 at the Palace Café with 16 members present. President A A Schramm opened with greetings to Edgar Gloor of Temple Lumber Co. No treasurer report or committee reports were given. Flowers bill paid for Henry Klos. Vera Hauschild's surgery at Marlin yielded favorable news. Mrs Lane expects to return home this weekend. Flatonia Prepares for State Convention Procession and Mass

Leper Taken to Hospital in Lavaca County

Lavaca County sent its first leprosy case to the Carrville leper colony in Louisiana this week. A 20 year old youth, long suspected, was diagnosed after microscopic tests by a San Antonio physician and corroborated by Dr. Fredrick A. Johannsen of the U S Marine Hospital at Carrville who accompanied the patient there.

Skeleton buried in Lavaca County after 1937 disappearance

The skeleton believed to be Joseph Lewandowski was buried in Catholic Cemetery at Hallettsville after short services at Rabena's Funeral Home. Lewandowski, who vanished May 16, 1937, left with a suitcase found nearby. the cause of death remains undetermined.
