On Sunday June 22 the St Elizabeth Society marks its silver jubilee with a High Mass at 9 oclock followed by a parish hall social for members of St Elizabeth and St Josephs Societies and their families. All members are urged to participate.
I extend heartfelt appreciation to friends for acts of kindness during my illness. Flowers and greeting cards brought comfort, and I assure you that time will never erase the memory of your thoughtful gestures.
United Dr. Martin Luther Church announces its Sunday school at Blucher Park with a feast event. Services include 9 a.m. church school and 10 a.m. divine service, English services at 8 p.m., and junior choir practice at 5:30 p.m. Rev. Richard Schuetze delivers a sermon emphasizing maturity and life’s responsibilities.
Christian Science Services announce the Sunday Lesson Sermon for June 22 on Is the Universe Including Man Evolved by Atomic Force. The Golden Text proclaims The Lord is a great God and King with power over earth, hills, and deep places. A Bible citation notes The foolishness of God is wiser than men.
Enter to worship and depart for service with L. A. McDaniel pastor. Morning worship at 11:00 and evening worship at 8:00 every second and fourth Sunday. Sunday School 9:00 10:00 a m. You are welcome to worship with us.

Henry C. Nickel pastor announces English services on the second Sunday of each month at 3 p.m. German services occur every fourth bicotée month at 3 p.m. All are cordially welcome.
The Corpus Christi celebration at St. Cyril and Methodius Church took place Sunday starting at 9 a m. Monsignor L P Netardus gave the sermon. A bannered procession led by Rev Ed Bily carried the Blessed Sacrament. Altar services followed, each decoratively adorned as Patek's Band played sacred hymns.
Edwin Victor Siegmund aged 29, son of Mrs. Nick Kutac, died June 14 at his Hallettsville home after long illness. Born Oct 12 1911 in Shiner, he studied at local convent and Sacred Heart School. Survivors include his mother, grandmother Mrs. Mary Quitta, stepfather Nick Kutac and two step-brothers. Burial at Sacred Heart Church with Solemn Requiem Mass.
Wm E Cleveland Lavaca County AAA secretary stated after USDA guidance that the government will not take title to loan cotton without prior public notice. If title is taken, producers receive the redemption costs minus a fair value determined by the Secretary of Agriculture based on prevailing average prices and grade differences. Public notice of any title action would occur at least ten days before, via press release.
A notice from E. Pete Kahanek announces his association with the Joe Kasner Barber Shop and invites old and new customers to visit the shop.
Victoria Rosebuds travel to Shiner for a Sunday game after a 14 4 loss in the first meeting. Shiner holds a 4 3 record with two new signings Jiggs Ausec and Alex Hutton. The Brewers seek a thriller at home after a 5 1 setback to Hallettsville as box score shows Shiner offense and defense in mixed form.
Patients at the local hospital include Mrs Emil Drozd of Schulenburg Miss Vera Hauschild Frank Kubecka of Shiner. Dismissed patients are Miss La Delle Merrem of Yoakum Mrs James Janak of Halletts ville Doris Ticharaky Ronald James Maneth of Shiner.
Mr. Louis Spaniel of the Witting community reports alfalfa better than knee high and in full bloom after applying 200 pounds of super phosphate per acre and planting 12 pounds of seed per acre on two acres. County agent G. C. King and Agricultural Chemist M. K. Thornton, Jr., visited on May 9, noting the impressive stand. Spaniel also reports sweet clover responds well to phosphate, with continued favorable results.
Victor John Mikeska of Yoakum is named Honor Man for his company at the U S Naval Training Station in San Diego California during training. The other two Texans are Joe Bailey Payne of Quitaque and Charles Randall Parris of Dallas. Payne and Parris enlisted at Dallas. Mikeska at Houston. All three will be assigned to fleet duty.

The Shiner Business Men's Club met at Palace Cafe with 12 members. Minutes were read and approved. Committees reported none, discussed United Service Organization sponsorship, and planned city churchman involvement. James Burke named L E Denmark P R Otto and A H Kasper nominating committee to report July meeting for officers.

The City Council on Saturday evening elected Arthur Ummelmann to serve Shin er as nightwatchman. Following the resignation of Ed Sommerlatte, Sommerlatte and family will relocate to Cuero where he has secured employment.
Ora Lee Johnson, 36, a negro woman living about three miles north of Yoakum, was cut to death early Monday by a knife wielded by her husband, Luther Johnson. Lavaca County officers reported a knife fight caused by a family quarrel. Luther Johnson surrendered and confessed the murder. He is held in Lavaca County jail under a murder charge.
The Penalty headlines the Palace Theatre with Ed Arnold and Lionel Easel in the lead role. The show promises dramatic action and classic cinema bravura as patrons attend performances this week.

Miss Blanche Havel, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Havel, earned a perfect 100 percent score on her spelling paper in the State Office of the League. Director Roy Bedichek announces a spelling certificate to be mailed. Blanche, Bunjes school graduate, president of the 4 H Club, and delegates to a Short Course at A and M College, won both spelling and declamation in the Interscholastic League and will attend Shiner High School next year.
Misses Mae Rogge and Edna Reischl travel to Dallas this week for a Reading Workshop at Southern Methodist University. The intensive survey course helps teachers review methods for teaching reading across grades one through twelve. It covers diagnosing reading difficulties remedial procedures selecting good reading material tests and modern instruments like the flash meter telebinocular opalphalmograph metron-o-score plus film strips and movies for speed reading.
To all kind and devoted friends and neighbors who helped during illness and after the passing of our beloved son and brother Arnold C Apts, sincere thanks are extended. Special thanks to Rev Jacobs Rev Schuetze Drs Wagner Jaeggli hospital nurses for kindness and floral tributes. The service will be remembered as sacred, now resting in Heavenly Father’s keeping. His Parents Brothers Sister and Miss Anita Schrieber.
Attend the high school softball game Thursday evening at 8 30 between Hallettsville All Stars and Shiner All Stars. Proceeds support local programs and the event promises competitive play.

Frances Jemelka and Willie Harabis wed at 8 am Tuesday June 17 at the Catholic Church of Shiner with Father Bily officiating. The bride wore a white satin lace dress and veil. attendants included Mary Harabis and Alice Kloesel in blue and rose taffeta. A dinner, dance, and reception followed at home and Midway Hall.
Miss Mildred Tenberg wed Rudolf Neusser in a double ring ceremony at United Dr. Martin Luther Church on Monday afternoon June 16. Rev R Schuetze officiated. bridal party and guests celebrated with a supper at the bride’s home. Rudy stationed at Camp Wallace. The couple will live in Shiner.
Cuero records report Dr. A J Bohman a Cuero physician married Miss Bernice Dulling of San Antonio in a Monday ceremony in San Antonio They plan a month long California motor trip after which they will settle in Cuero The couple will reside after their return Dr Bohman associates with Dr Wagner at Cuero Lutheran Hospital The bride a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake College taught in Nordheim schools since 1937

The 1941 Yoakum Tom celebration drew capacity crowds at every event from Friday parade to Saturday dances. Shiner contributed with a Hobo Band and floats featuring Miss Francis Elaine Wagner and Duke Merlin Hugo. Royal Court honors went to Wagner and Otto, while Clementine Peters and jockeys also earned praise.
During my husband illness he wished to express thanks for flowers visits words of cheer and kind deeds. Since his passing I thank all especially Dr Wagner and nurses to James Buske Walter Schoenfogl Ernest Zimmerman for blood given to Rev Jacobs for comforting words and the Moulton Lutheran Choir for songs. Parents may transfer children outside their district any time up to and including August 1. Transfers after that date are not allowed. A Transfer Permit Blank is signed by trustees if approved. if opposed, trustees and parents appear before the County Board on August 6. In Shiner, transfers may be processed with Supt J Mil Auld or Mr Paul Otto.
Louise Walters extends thanks to friends for flowers gifts and cards during illness. She also thanks Dr Wagner Dr Boyle and the nurses for their services and offers blessings.

The Shiner Garden Club will meet with Mrs. Emil Hajek on Friday June 20 at 3:30 p.m. in her home. Members are requested to bring blooming plant samples for study and share upcoming event plans with the group.
A couple welcomed their first child a boy born on June 13. The newborn’s father is identified as a man formerly known as Miss Mary.
