Daily papers report the marriage of Dr. A. J. Bohman of Cuero to Miss Bernice Dulling of San Antonio that occurred on Monday. More particulars will follow in later editions.
United Dr. Martin Luther Church announces a busy week with a 9 a m Sunday School and 10 a m German Divine Service. The Lutheran Men's Club meets at 7 30 p m on Wednesday June 18 and the Women's Missionary Society at 3 p m. The June 22 feast day at Blucher Park features a Gospel message by Rev. Richard Schuetze urging eternal life through Christ.
The notice lists worship hours at 11:00 a m and 7:00 p m on the second and fourth Sundays. Sunday School 10:00 a m every Sunday. Pastor L A McDaniel invites all to worship and participate.
Sunday School at 10:00 with H Cammack as superintendent. Morning Worship at 11:00. Training Union at 6:30 led by Mrs R B Harris. Evening Worship at 8:00. Midweek prayer Wednesday at 8. A cordial welcome from Rayford Harris, minister.
Henry C. Nickel pastor invites visitors to Emmanuel Lutheran Church for English services on the second Sunday of each month at 3 p m and German services on the fourth Sunday at 3 p m with a cordial welcome to all.
Hundreds of Cuero and De Witt county residents attended the last rites for Ed. Dietze a Cuero dairy man who died Sunday after a heart attack. Services were held at his home and St. Mark's Lutheran church with interment in Hillside cemetery. He was born May 24 1878 in Cuero and survived by wife Pauline Kunitz four children seven grandchildren and several siblings and in laws. Funeral directions were by Freund Funeral Home.
The Shiner Gazette extends sincere sympathy to Mrs L E Denmark and all those bereft in the passing of Mr Ed Dietze a good man and father.
Rain continues to drench the community with 2.14 inches in the past seven days and a single 1.9 inch downpour on late Tuesday evening. This sequence underscores ongoing wet conditions across the area.
Christian Science services outline a Lesson-Sermon titled God the Preserver of Man to be read in all Churches of Christ on Sunday June 15. The Golden Text proclaims The eternal God is thy refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms from Deuteronomy 33 27. A cited verse adds And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom from 2 Timothy 4 18.
Governor W Lee O Daniel proclaims June 8 to 14 National Tomato Week in Texas and urges Texans to focus on the state’s key agricultural product. The Yoakum Tomato Tom Tom festival on June 12 to 14 highlights the observance with a three day program drawing thousands of visitors.
Luther Walker McBride aged 65 died June 8 at 7 15 am in Huth Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born near Pleasant Hill Missouri December 10 1875 he worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad rising to Terminal Superintendent. Married May 1 1900 to Mises Flora McNatt two daughters Mrs Carl C Welhausen and grandchildren Mary Katherine and Mildred Jean Welhausen survive along with siblings and many relatives. Funeral services were held at the Welhausen home with Masonic and Knights Templar honors at Oak Grove cemetery.
Nine men will be ordained to the priesthood in San Antonio on June 12. Rev. Hubert J. Janak of Wied will celebrate his First Solemn Mass at St. Mary's on June 15 with family ties to Mrs. August Janak and Rev. Jos. Pustka. A second First Solemn Mass will be held in Koerth on June 22 for Rev. E. A. Hermes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hermes.
In sorrow we express gratitude to Mons. L. P. Netardus Rev. E. Bily and the choir for comforting services and words. Arnold C. Apts son of Mr and Mrs Robt Apts died Friday June 6 at 1130 pm after illness from pneumonia. Survived by parents sister and two brothers. funeral held Tuesday June 10 at 230 pm at Witting Church with interment at Witting Cemetery. Rev Schuetze and Rev Jacobs officiated. Pallbearers named. Charlottenburg birth. Shin er High School class of 3. ."
Mr Cammack announced Monday that a list of ginning band students has been enrolled in the summer course including Lah Thrudie Sonntag Fritz Boedeker Eddie Fischner Anita Klosel Eva Jo Boyle Paul Bartak Gus Bonarden James Dreyer Alton Tieken Lola Mae Marburger Patricia Hughs Eunice Sommerlatte Amie Sommerlatte Aline Werner Kay Hazel Bannett Viola Macha Helen Bartak Billie Labarra Leon Miculka and Lester Fissler.
Mrs. H H Liebhafsky and Miss Hertha attend commencement as Herbert Liebhafsky receives his Master of Science degree. He has been an Economics instructor at the college and will continue in that role. He was among the outstanding students, ranking high in his studies.
Miss Ladell Merrem of Yoakum underwent an appendicitis operation at the local hospital Sunday evening. Her condition is reported as satisfactory. Her grandmother Mrs. Dittmar, also a patient there, is well on the way to recovery.
The Weimar Chamber of Commerce announces the July 4th Cucumber Carnival with a Gherkin Glamour Girl revue. Shiner is invited to send a Duchess and a Junior Duchess and Duke, with formal endorsement procedures for solicitors and local Home Defense Guard planning.
Miss Clementine Peters of Yoakum selected as duchess to represent the Farm er's League at the Yoakum Tom Tom. She named Johnnie Hajek son of Mr and Mrs Emil Hajek of our city as her duke. Both are members of St Ludmila's Senior Class this year.
Dr Leon C Kopecky a member of the medical staff at M and S Hospital San Antonio was operated on for appendicitis last Thursday night and his condition was critical for days. Latest word from his bedside is more encouraging and friends hope for a complete recovery.
Following several months of intense pain Mrs. Ludwig Pokluda died June 5 at the local hospital at age 60. The funeral was held June 8 at 8 15 AM from the family home near Charlottenburg with Requiem High Mass at Shiner Catholic Church. Monsignor L P Netardus officiated, Rev E Bily delivered the sermon and burial was in Catholic Cemetery. Surviving are husband Ludwig and ten children: Steve Paul John Alois of Shiner Joseph of Cuero Frances of Corpus Christi Hedwig Amalie Mary at home. two sisters Mrs John Valis Sr and Mrs Jacob Patek. five brothers Rudolph Adolf Jerome Joe Mike Siegel. two grandchildren. The deceased, born in Czechoslovakia, came to America at age two and lived in St Mary’s community before moving near Shiner. She was a member of St Mary’s and the Shiner Lodge No 3 K J Z T Society.
Ray and Glade Welhausen spent Sunday in Robstown viewing crop conditions. Lewis Striebeck and his daughter Jane Ellen of San Antonio spent the weekend in Shiner. Jane Ellen underwent adenoid removal at the local hospital.
Hugo J Striebeck aged 48 years 8 months 8 days died at Wagner Hospital after weeks of suffering. He was a lifelong Witting resident, member of the Lutheran Church and Rose of Prairie Insurance, married to Oulie Koch. Surviving are his wife, father, two sisters, and a nephew. funeral held at Geo. Mueller’s residence in Moulton with burial in Moulton Public Cemetery. Rev Elmer Jacobs officiated. pallbearers listed.
The Business Men's Club holds a meeting at Pohler's Cafe tonight at 7:00 p.m. Members discuss local commerce and upcoming events. Attendees urged to arrive on time.
Robert James Patek, 3, son of Mr and Mrs Jos Patek, sustained a fractured leg and foot lacerations with five stitches after being struck by a car in Houston last Friday. He was crossing with his parents and grandfather when he darted into traffic. He received care at St Joseph's Hospital and was sent home the next day, bed confined but improving.
