Shiner Business Men's Club Holds Twilight Meeting
The Shiner Business Men's Club met at the Game and Fish Reserve on Thursday night with 62 participants. President Denmark presided, J C Jones gave the invocation, minutes and treasurer’s report were approved, a $25 donation to the Reserve for improvements was authorized, and Roscoe Canon from Pachuca Mexico spoke briefly. W.L. Goudelock and H.G. Coldewey assisted with a lamb barbecue and accompaniments. Bargain Day 4th Wednesday.

Green Community Home Demonstration Organized in Lavaca County
Miss Della Pfluger, Lavaca County Home Demonstrator, met with Green community ladies at Mrs. J. D. Rippen’s home on June 9 to learn canning. About twenty women and a few men attended a corn and carrot canning demonstration and other vegetables. Officers elected: J. D. Rippen president, Walter Goetz secretary, Kuentzl council delegate, John Behlen pantry demonstrator, Willie Hagendorf reporter. Next meeting set for June 23 at Mrs. John Behlen’s home. Cottage Fire Destroys Farm Home Near Town
A dwelling on Mrs. Agnes Polasek’s farm, six miles north of town, burned at noon last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Siegel, tenants, lost all personal property with no insurance. Siegel family staying at Polasek home. Ernst Pavlica solicited aid in town Saturday for the affected. Clifton J. Monroe secured summer assistant instructor role at State University and was promoted to head coach without a salary cut. Gilbert Luedecke returns home from Lutheran College Seguin.

Death of Immanuel Kaspar. Peoria educator and musician
August Kaspar received a wire from Peoria noting the death of his brother Immanuel Kaspar at 58 after a two week illness. He served as superintendent of a large Lutheran Parochial School in Peoria and was a skilled musician and choir director, with pipe organ mastery. He is survived by a Houston sister and two brothers in other states, with many friends offering sympathy.

First Cotton of Season Reaches Houston
The season's first bale of cotton arrived in Houston Tuesday morning in a cloud of dust from the south. The stripped automobile carrying it screeched to a stop in front of the Cotton Exchange at 6:45 a.m. The Houston Cotton Exchange bought the bale at 30 cents per pound. Summer school opened at the High School this week with Mr and Mrs Chas Chovanetz as teachers. Pupils may register for make up or new courses not later than today Thursday.
