Pre-Addressed Vouchers Replace Bills For Estimated Tax Installments

R L Phinney announces that taxpayers will use pre-addressed Form 1040 ES vouchers for estimated federal income tax payments. Only voucher No 2 should be returned with the June 16 payment. The new system identifies payments and credits accurately, and follows declarations from 1969. Taxpayers can obtain vouchers from any IRS office.

Southern Texas taxpayers may see higher estimated tax payments if the 10 percent surcharge is extended past June 30. District Director R. L. Phinney urged taxpayers to adjust their June installment if Congress extends the surcharge, and to watch for further notices and guidance.

Local Brewery Distributor Meeting at Mountain View Ranch

Distributors gathered at Mountain View Ranch in New Braunfels on Saturday May 24 for a Shiner Brewery promotional planning session. A ranch tour, barbecue lunch, and fishing followed the 2 p.m. meeting led by Dr. E A Grist who announced the 1969 theme Shiner Beer the Festive Beer.

Historical Survey Committee Approves Marker For Rocky Creek Crossing

Lavaca County Historical Survey Committee met in Moulton to discuss marker plans for the 1836 Texas Army crossing at Rocky Creek nine miles north of Hallettsville. A marker project was approved with progress on DSA award, and a junior historian program eyed for fall.

Funeral services for Louis Joseph Balajka were held at 9 15 a m Tuesday June 10 from Buffington Funeral Home Shiner and continued at Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church A Requiem Mass was offered by Fathers Hanacek Hybner and Marron Burial was in Shiner Catholic Cemetery Pallbearers included Eugene Kubena Ben Novak Joe Preisler Frank Roznovsky Joe Stary and Adolph Korenek Balajka aged 70 years 4 months and 1 day died June 8 1969 after an extended illness He was born February 7 1899 in Bohuslavice Moravia came to America in 1901 and lived near Moulton He married Christina Fojtik in 1920 and Betty Dolezal in 1946 He is survived by his wife two daughters Adela Janisch and Georgia Hubner a son Eugene Balajka a sister Mrs Josephine Kubena eight grandchildren and several relatives.

Funeral Rites Held Friday For Adolph J Hybner

Funeral services for Adolph J Hybner were held in Shiner Texas with a Requiem Mass at Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Surviving family included grandsons and great nephews, with many relatives attending. Hybner, age 81, died June 4 1969 in Frank Wag our Memorial Hospital after months of illness. He was a lifelong Catholic and active in Knights of Columbus and KJT.

Damage to Rural Mail Boxes in Shiner Texas

On May 30 1969 three rural mail boxes were stolen and twenty six others damaged in Shiner Texas. A June 5 1969 postal inspection followed as investigators pursue the act of willful destruction of U S property. The notice cites Sec 1705 of federal law and asks for information to aid ongoing investigation led by Postmaster Arthur T Ward.

GVEC Launches Food Fun For Juniors Classes in Shiner

Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative sponsors the Food Fun For Juniors program in Shiner starting Monday June 16. Sixty six girls from fourth to sixth grades in Shiner Area schools enroll to learn Creative Cooking For Special Occasions under GVEC advisors Anne Howard and Marie Cockcroft at Shiner High School and St Paul High School. Morning sessions 9 to 11, afternoon 1 to 3 Monday through Thursday with Friday graduation exercises. Each graduate receives a Mother's Favorite Kitchen Helper certificate and a Willie Wirehand apron followed by a Punch Party for graduates and parents.

Services Held For Winnie Vrazel

Winnie Vrazel a 79 year old Shiner resident and last surviving member of her immediate family died at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital on June 5 1969. Funeral services were held at home in Shiner and at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Requiem Mass. Burial followed beside her parents in Yoakum. Pallbearers included Laddie Vrazel Johnny Vrazel and others. She was born December 6 1889 in Engle Fayette County Texas and lived in Shiner since 1931. She was survived by nieces nephews and other relatives. Her death leaves heartfelt sympathy for mourners.

Final Week of Lutheran Vacation Church School

United Dr. Martin Luther Church finishes the Vacation Church School with the theme Jesus and the Church. Attendance reached 75 students with 25 teachers and helpers.
