Reverend Gordon to Remain Pastor at Shiner United Methodist Church

The Rev J Gordon will continue as pastor of the Shiner United Methodist Church after Bishop O Eugene Slater announced the Southwest Texas Conference clergy appointments for the new year. The May 29 31 closing session in Corpus Christi confirmed the list. The Shiner congregation welcomed the return of Rev Talk and his family. Mr and Mrs Arthur Kaspar spent last week in Boston and New York City attending the National Council of Boy Scouts of America meeting in Boston.

Rites Held For Drowning Victim Eugene Dolezal

Eugene Dolezal 33, Oakridge Smokehouse worker, died in a farm pond near Schulenburg after attempting to swim Friday May 23 1969. Rescue crews from Schulenburg La Grange and Travis County Emergency Unit recovered the body about 20 feet deep. a verdict of accidental drowning was given. Funeral services were held May 26 at St. Rose Church with burial in St. Rose Cemetery. Survived by wife Dorothy and four children.

Shiner Baptist Church Hosts Vacation Bible School

The Shiner Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School from June 9 to June 13, 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. Children ages 4 to 13 are invited. The theme is Declare His Glory. A closing program is planned for Friday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. All visitors are welcome.

Bills backed by Newman pass on local and consent basis

Three bills sponsored by Representative J. T. Newman of Cuero clear the House on a local and consent calendar. S.B. 808 would rename the Jackson County Flood Control District to Lavaca- Navidad River Authority and go to the governor. H. B. 1460 creates a DeWitt County wide conservation and reclamation district. H. B. 1461 creates a Lavaca County wide conservation and reclamation district. The measures enable county wide drainage water and sewer projects, grants donations, water system improvements, and pollution controls.

Mobile X Ray Unit visits Shiner for TB screening

Shiner Business Men's Club sponsors a mobile X-ray unit at Legion Park on Friday June 6. The clinic is open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Adults pay 50 cents and teens 15 to 18 pay 25 cents. Fight tuberculosis with annual chest X rays.

Mrs. Esther Turner and her SHiner High School home economics students hosted a May 14 party in the TLH dining hall. Miss Ella Stoeltje and Mrs. Annie Emken were the guests of honor, with hillbilly style entertainment, cake, coffee, and corsages from Frers Flower Shop. The TLH Auxiliary sponsors monthly events and invites visitors for the June 25 host date.

Shiner High Band Plans Yoakum Parade Outing

Shiner High School Band will depart the gym at 2 30 PM Saturday June 7 for the Yoakum Tom Tom parade. Parents must provide transport and passes for swimming at Yoakum. The group will stay for supper and the rodeo and band members have school duties until 1 PM Saturday.
