Flood Bill Clears Senate and House to Fund Flood Repairs
Thursday morning the Senate passed a proposal to return half of the county’s state taxes for ten years to fund flood control. If signed by the Governor, about $250,000 will be diverted for road and bridge repairs in the stricken areas.

Widow Annie Lupanec Dies in Tragic Death Near Home
Mrs Annie Lupanec aged 69 13 died by her own action after being found in a water pool six feet deep near her home. Inquest by Justice E P Kloesel and Dr R W Williams found death self inflicted. She lived with daughter and son in law Rudie Stefka near Michna School and was buried in Shiner Catholic Cemetery after Requiem Mass at the Catholic Church. Survivors include sons Joe Jim Louis Victor and Mary Koranek and Pauline Stefka.

County Wide Graduation Exercises End Lavaca County Rural School Session
Dr. L A Woods state superintendent delivered the principal address to one hundred eighty graduates of Lavaca County rural schools as the 1940 41 session closed Saturday night in Hallettsville. County Superintendent Bill Eilers introduced each program number except the speaker. Lee Kuykendall of the State Department and formerly of Hallettsville introduced Woods. Shiner High School Band gave a thirty minute concert before the program with soloists Dorothy Sembora and August Darilek. Band director Cammack earned praise for the group and the soloists. Honor graduates were Rudy Jemelka Green School valedictorian and Daniel Zissa Kopecky School salutatorian.
