Pagel Rites Held in Cotulla for Louis A. Pagel

Funeral services for Louis A. Pagel were held May 28 1966 at the Cotulla Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ben Welch and Rev. Bill Simpson officiating. Burial followed in Cotulla Cemetery. Pagel died May 27 in Kerrville Veterans Hospital at 69 after an extended illness. He was born July 21 1896 in Shiner and lived in Cotulla since 1926 working as a plumber and electrician until retirement in 1958. He is survived by his wife Jennie, two daughters Virginia Ann Pagel and Jean Wier, two sisters and two grandsons.

Historic Dallas meeting to appoint 2000 Methodist ministers

The final service of a four day Methodist conference at Southern Methodist University will appoint about 2000 ministers for the 1966 67 year. Governor John Connally spoke at the Tuesday night session as the eight Texas annual conferences meet for the first time combined. The event marks the 200th anniversary of Methodism in America and the 50th of SMU with joint sessions and commemorations.

SHS Library Opens for Summer Reading Program

The Shiner Public Schools high school library opens for the summer with books for all ages and most fields of interest available to residents of the Shiner Independent School District. A library aide is on duty from 9:00 to 3:00 daily to help locate, check out, and return books.

Additional Mail Service For Shiner

Postmaster Arthur Ward announced a new Hallettsville to Victoria star route service starting Monday May 30 at 3 20 p m passing Shiner. Shiner receives mail from La Grange Schulenburg and Hallettsville and forwards all Shiner mail to the Victoria sectional center. This shifts mail processing earlier enabling Victoria to begin handling letters and packages sooner and patrons are urged to mail early by 3 00 p m.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church to mark 75th anniversary

Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Yoakum observes its 75th anniversary with 10:30 a.m. anniversary worship led by Dr. Philip Wahlberg of Austin and an ordination at 3:00 p.m. for Al Hoerig, joined by ministers Rev. Del Dolton and others. A 11:30 a.m. beer barbecue and exhibits of 75 years' pictures follow in the Parish Hall.

Mobile X Ray Unit to Visit Shiner Friday June 17

The Alamo Area Tuberculosis Association mobile X ray unit will be in Shiner at Legion Park on Friday June 17 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Admission costs 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for teens 15 to 18, with excess fees not denying service.

Lavaca County Casts 972 Votes in Democratic Runoff

In Lavaca County the Democratic runoff drew 972 total ballots with 959 in person and 13 absentee. Crawford Martin led attorney general race by a two to one margin, and Conde Anderson edged Kirkpatrick for the Texas Board of Education post, helped by a strong Galveston County showing.
