Comets Fall to Lavacans in Tight Sunday Battle

Shiner Comets lose 10-8 to Lavacans in Hallettsville after a seventh inning rally by Shiner and late Lavacan scoring. Key plays include Greer double, Calhoun and Rivera singles, and a pivotal seventh inning where Dreyer and Struka cleared the bases for Shiner before Lavacans answered with three in the bottom of the frame. X Ray Unit Sees 1001 Registrations by Wednesday

The State X-Ray Unit reported 1001 registrations by one o'clock Wednesday with afternoon hours remaining. The August 1948 total stood at 1081, and the unit may surpass 1948's record.

The Methodist Church welcomes their full time pastor the Rev S R Horwood with services at 11am Sundays and 8pm Sundays. Mrs Horwood reported on the Southwest Texas Conference in San Antonio. W S C S officers will be installed June 11 at 8pm. The Horwoods and son Stanley will move from Luling to the new parsonage in about two weeks.

Funeral Rites Held Monday For Adolph Kloesel Sr

Adolph Kloesel Sr died Saturday June 3 at 6 30 am at age 77 with survivors including sons Arthur John W Kloesel and Adolph Jr and daughter Thekla Ely and four grandchildren. He born May 23 1873 in Praha and lived in Komensky 30 years as a farmer. Burial was in Shiner Catholic Cemetery with Rev J J Hanecek officiating.

Funeral Held For Emil Tousek Near Moulton

Emil Frank Tousek died at his parents home near Moulton Sunday evening at age 18 years 8 months. He is survived by parents three brothers Charles Jacob and Tom and two sisters Mrs A J Vana and Mrs Jim Fillip. Born near Moulton he attended Dickson and Evergreen schools. The Rev Joseph Kopp led services at Smith Funeral Home and St Josephs Catholic Church with interment at Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Local sympathy poured in for the well known youth.
