Despite surrounding areas dealing with floods twisters and hail Shiner reported 2.65 inches of rainfall in the past week with lowering clouds ominous.
Congratulations go to Mr and Mrs Eldon Janisch of Corpus Christi on the birth of a daughter June 1 weighing 8 pounds. Mr and Mrs Martin Boedeker welcome a son born at the local hospital June 4 weighing nine pounds ten ounces.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet tonight at 7:45 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce room.
Miss Catherine Polasek daughter of Mr and Mrs William Polasek Glaze City became the bride of Eugene Trobl son of Mr and Mrs Joe Trobl Dilworth at 8 o clock Nuptial Mass in Sts Cyril and Methodius Church Rev J J Hanacek officiating Witnesses were Rudy Hobital and Edwin Konecny The couple will reside in the Kokernot community after a reception at the bride’s home
The Shiner High School P T A will hold a regular session Thursday June 8 at 4 00 pm. A large attendance is expected as members set plans for summer projects.
Shiner Comets lose 10-8 to Lavacans in Hallettsville after a seventh inning rally by Shiner and late Lavacan scoring. Key plays include Greer double, Calhoun and Rivera singles, and a pivotal seventh inning where Dreyer and Struka cleared the bases for Shiner before Lavacans answered with three in the bottom of the frame. Umpires were Ybarra, Chovanetz, and Maneth.
The wedding of Miss Mary Elizabeth Dolezal and Charles C Krejci took place at Sts Cyril and Methodius Church with an 8 am Nuptial Mass. The ceremony featured a candlelit altar and guests included Eugene Simper and Harvey Krejci. The couple will live on a farm near Shiner after a reception and dance at Boedeker's.

Musicians of all kinds are invited to join the Shiner Hobo Band at Edwin Barcak's Place at 8:00 p.m. Thursday June 15. Bring instruments wash tubs and potato whistles for the gathering.

The State X-Ray Unit reported 1001 registrations by one o'clock Wednesday with afternoon hours remaining. The August 1948 total stood at 1081, and the unit may surpass 1948's record.
The Methodist Church welcomes their full time pastor the Rev S R Horwood with services at 11am Sundays and 8pm Sundays. Mrs Horwood reported on the Southwest Texas Conference in San Antonio. W S C S officers will be installed June 11 at 8pm. The Horwoods and son Stanley will move from Luling to the new parsonage in about two weeks.
Lavaca County readers are invited to the Sunset Drive In Theatre opening on Thursday June 15 with outdoor entertainment. The grand gala promises welcoming crowds and family attendance as seven days remain before the event.
A community benefit for Herman Sons Cemetery will be held at Turner Hall Hochheim Prairie on Sunday June 11 at 3 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring lunch.

The Rev J J Hanacek officiated a Tuesday morning Sacristy wedding uniting Dorothy Janda daughter of Joseph and the late Mrs Janda and Wilbert Bender son of Mr and Mrs Albin Bender. The couple plan to reside in Shiner after a brief wedding trip.
Adolph Kloesel Sr died Saturday June 3 at 6 30 am at age 77 with survivors including sons Arthur John W Kloesel and Adolph Jr and daughter Thekla Ely and four grandchildren. He born May 23 1873 in Praha and lived in Komensky 30 years as a farmer. Burial was in Shiner Catholic Cemetery with Rev J J Hanecek officiating.
The Blessed Virgin Mary Society will meet Sunday June 11 at 1 30 p m. Members are asked to bring food for lunch after the business session. All members are urged to attend the 9 30 a m Corpus Christi Day procession.
Funeral services for Robert William Apts 62 were held Wednesday June 7 at 2 30 p m from the family home then to Witting Lutheran Church Interment in Witting Lutheran Cemetery Buffington a local hospital death June 5 after ill health since 1942 born Dickson community January 19 1888 lifelong resident of Lavaca County survived by wife Alma Stratman daughter in law Annie Hohmann son George D Apts one brother one sister and a grandchild The Rev K Windecker officiated He was a faithful member of Witting Lutheran Church and O D H S Lodge.
Emil Frank Tousek died at his parents home near Moulton Sunday evening at age 18 years 8 months. He is survived by parents three brothers Charles Jacob and Tom and two sisters Mrs A J Vana and Mrs Jim Fillip. Born near Moulton he attended Dickson and Evergreen schools. The Rev Joseph Kopp led services at Smith Funeral Home and St Josephs Catholic Church with interment at Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Local sympathy poured in for the well known youth.
Shiner Chapter No. 272 O E S will hold installation services Tuesday night June 13. All members urged to attend.
