State X-Ray Unit Visits Shiner to Screen For TB

Final arrangements for the State Health Department X-ray unit in Shiner include a 9 30 a m to 5 30 p m schedule on June 3 5 6 and 7 at City Hall. Sponsored by the Rotary Club, the screening targets residents 15 and older to detect tuberculosis early and is tax funded with no extra charge.

Nagelmueller Wendt Rites Quiet Wedding in May

Miss Mary Ann Nagelmueller and Roy Wendt were married at 4 p.m. May 20 at St. Joseph's Rectory in Moulton. Rev. Joseph Kopp officiated. The couple planned a brief trip and will reside in Shiner after the ceremony. Witnesses were Otto Wendt Jr. and William Nagelmueller.

Veterans Plan Gigantic 4th of July Celebration

The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars plan a Legion Park Fourth of July gala in Shiner with a kiddies parade limited to ages twelve and under, a chicken barbecue from 11, three bands including Nordheim Firemen's Band Shiner High School Band and Shiner HOBO band, a big evening dance by the Patek orchestra, and ongoing amusements. Entrants should contact Adolph Seidenberger or Basil Bell for parade details and prizes will be awarded.

Mrs. Michaelis Succumbs After Long Illness

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Otto H. Michaelis of Moulton at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner with Rev K Winkenwerder officiating. Born Amalia Struken in Witting May 19 1878 she died May 28 1948 in Moulton aged 72 years 9 days. She leaves son John F Michaelis San Antonio daughter Mrs Wally Nagel Mueller Hallettsville three brothers H L Stluken G R Stluken Jno A Stluken sister Mrs Bertha Mikeska Hallettsville and three grandchildren.

First Solemn Mass for Rev Balthasar Janacek at Hobson

Rev Balthasar Janacek celebrated his first solemn Mass at Hobson on Sunday May 28 at 9 o clock. The ordination rites occurred May 27 at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio at 9 30 am. He is son of Mr and Mrs Anton Janacek born in Dewesville Texas and educated at St Boniface Hobson then St John Seminary since 1939. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Felix Narvar Mrs Otto Strauss Jr Mr and Mrs C J Waldrep and Miss Lillian Hoyer of Austin. Father Janacek is a first cousin of Mrs C J Waldrep and Felix Najvar.

Father Arnold Anders son of Mr and Mrs Frank J Anders was born December 11 1926 in Dubina He began at St Edwards School and St Johns Archdiocesan Seminary in 1939 After five years of prep he studied philosophy and theology at St Johns Seminary He celebrated his First Solemn Mass a Field Mass on May 28 in Dubina Attending from the parish were local families and St Johns seminarians.

Second Dairy Day Show At Shiner Proves Successful

The second Dairy Day Show sponsored by the Shiner Chamber of Commerce was held Saturday May 27 at Legion Park. Judge Sam Rosenberg of A and M College oversaw the event noting excellent and very good ribbons for dairy cattle entries. Produce of dam and various classes featured Jerseys and Guernseys with multiple champions and a judging contest won by Lavaca County Vocational School students. Equipment booths and a strong USDA display complemented the program.

Mrs. Ben Stock Laid To Rest After Long Life

Mrs. Ben Stock born April 23 1875 in Oldenburg Germany died May 24 at her Shiner residence. Funeral services were held May 26 at Roeder Funeral Home and United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev Edwin J Oehlke officiating. burial in Shiner City Cemetery. She and her husband Ben Stock lived in Houston El Campo Shiner and El Campo again before settling in Shiner. Surviving are Ben Stock nine children two sisters and two brothers along with 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
