Final arrangements for the State Health Department X-ray unit in Shiner include a 9 30 a m to 5 30 p m schedule on June 3 5 6 and 7 at City Hall. Sponsored by the Rotary Club, the screening targets residents 15 and older to detect tuberculosis early and is tax funded with no extra charge.
Miss Mary Ann Nagelmueller and Roy Wendt were married at 4 p.m. May 20 at St. Joseph's Rectory in Moulton. Rev. Joseph Kopp officiated. The couple planned a brief trip and will reside in Shiner after the ceremony. Witnesses were Otto Wendt Jr. and William Nagelmueller.
The Shiner High School P T A will meet in regular session on Thursday June 8 at 4 00 p m. A large attendance is expected as members plan summer projects.
The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars plan a Legion Park Fourth of July gala in Shiner with a kiddies parade limited to ages twelve and under, a chicken barbecue from 11, three bands including Nordheim Firemen's Band Shiner High School Band and Shiner HOBO band, a big evening dance by the Patek orchestra, and ongoing amusements. Entrants should contact Adolph Seidenberger or Basil Bell for parade details and prizes will be awarded.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Otto H. Michaelis of Moulton at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner with Rev K Winkenwerder officiating. Born Amalia Struken in Witting May 19 1878 she died May 28 1948 in Moulton aged 72 years 9 days. She leaves son John F Michaelis San Antonio daughter Mrs Wally Nagel Mueller Hallettsville three brothers H L Stluken G R Stluken Jno A Stluken sister Mrs Bertha Mikeska Hallettsville and three grandchildren.
The Knights of Columbus will join the congregation to receive Holy Communion in a body at the 6 30 o'clock Mass on Sunday June 4 in the local church.
Washington May 22 Surplus materials from the White House renovation will be offered as mementoes to schools museums churches libraries and civic groups. Congressman Thompson urges Ninth District groups to request by June 15 with charges for packing shipping and transport to be paid by recipients.
Rev Balthasar Janacek celebrated his first solemn Mass at Hobson on Sunday May 28 at 9 o clock. The ordination rites occurred May 27 at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio at 9 30 am. He is son of Mr and Mrs Anton Janacek born in Dewesville Texas and educated at St Boniface Hobson then St John Seminary since 1939. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Felix Narvar Mrs Otto Strauss Jr Mr and Mrs C J Waldrep and Miss Lillian Hoyer of Austin. Father Janacek is a first cousin of Mrs C J Waldrep and Felix Najvar.

Michael O Shaughnessy son of John and Margaret O Shaughnessy was born October 30 1924 at Bettyville House Askeaton County Limerick Ireland His home parish is St Marys and he studied at Askeaton National School high school college and Mungret College He came to St Johns in February 1945 and celebrated his First Solemn Mass at St Leos Church San Antonio May 28 Attendees from Shiner included Mr and Mrs Addigl and family Mr and Mrs Victor Teknik and Mr and Mrs Eddie Hons
Father Arnold Anders son of Mr and Mrs Frank J Anders was born December 11 1926 in Dubina He began at St Edwards School and St Johns Archdiocesan Seminary in 1939 After five years of prep he studied philosophy and theology at St Johns Seminary He celebrated his First Solemn Mass a Field Mass on May 28 in Dubina Attending from the parish were local families and St Johns seminarians.
Frank A Riha 70 10 13 died at the local hospital after illness. Funeral from Roeder Funeral Home May 29 at 8:45 a.m. to Shiner Catholic Church for Requiem High Mass at 9:00 a.m. Interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife Mary Brom Riha. sons Anton Ben Frank Riha. daughters Hattie Annie Angeline Wilma Louise Riha Herman. brothers Joe John Riha. sisters Marie Kasper Katherine. 21 grandchildren. Casket attendants nephews Tasler Kasper Tasler Tasler Walleck. Member St Isidor Society O D H S Lodge. Condolences extended to all.

The second Dairy Day Show sponsored by the Shiner Chamber of Commerce was held Saturday May 27 at Legion Park. Judge Sam Rosenberg of A and M College oversaw the event noting excellent and very good ribbons for dairy cattle entries. Produce of dam and various classes featured Jerseys and Guernseys with multiple champions and a judging contest won by Lavaca County Vocational School students. Equipment booths and a strong USDA display complemented the program.
Mrs. Ben Stock born April 23 1875 in Oldenburg Germany died May 24 at her Shiner residence. Funeral services were held May 26 at Roeder Funeral Home and United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev Edwin J Oehlke officiating. burial in Shiner City Cemetery. She and her husband Ben Stock lived in Houston El Campo Shiner and El Campo again before settling in Shiner. Surviving are Ben Stock nine children two sisters and two brothers along with 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The City Cemetery Association expresses thanks to the American Legion for park use, Joe Patek for radio announcements, Milton Bruns for loudspeaking gear, K.C.T.I. Gonzales, K.C.F.H. Cuero for broadcasts, and all donors and workers. Net receipts total $336.73.
Rev. S. R. Horwood is assigned to Shiner Methodist Church after the Southwest Texas annual conference in San Antonio. The 92nd session read appoints for 240 ministers. Horwood will relocate with his wife and son Stanley once the parsonage is completed.
Shiner Catholic Church gym hall will be built by contractor E J Gerdes of Victoria after bids opened Friday at 10 30 am in the Archdiocese Chancery Office San Antonio. Building committee members present included Rev John Hanacek Frank Tasler John Kasper Sr Ed Fischnar Ernest Kral Jerry Havel Jos Muras.
