Ummelman Rites Set for Cuero Resident

Herman F. Ummelman 63 longtime Cuero resident died Friday in San Antonio after a two year illness. Survived by two daughters, a son, four grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services held Sunday at 4 p.m.

Bernice Braden and Walter Deharde Marry in Nuptial Mass

Bernice Braden and Walter James Deharde were united in marriage at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in a Nuptial Mass officiated by Rev. R. C. Hoffmann. The bride wore a lace gown with an illusion veil, bridal bouquet of stephanotis, and the ceremony included family witnesses and a reception at the bride’s home. The couple will reside in Yoakum. Deharde is a Shiner High School graduate and WWII veteran.

Heavy hail damages crops across E. J. Kempe farm area

A severe hailstorm and thunderstorm last Wednesday night caused major crop losses in the vicinity. Cotton and corn were stripped on the E. J. Kempe farm and adjoining fields, with replanting underway for cotton while corn yield prospects are poor. Some old cotton survived better as others along the hail path suffered heavy damage. Some farmers report new leaf growth on stripped cotton stalks.

Wolters Herder Family Reunion Plans at Schulenburg Park

The Wolters Herder family of Texas schedules its tenth annual reunion for June 13 in Schulenburg at Wolters Park. The group traces back to Aust in County settlers Jacob Wolters I and George Herder I in 1835 and will honor members who served in World War II. A Memorial service will honor deceased members including George Herder of Weimar and Gus Russek of Schulenburg.
