Bugle Corps to Be Organized by Kolar-Stanek Post

At a recent meeting Kolar-Stanek Post favored forming a Bugle Corps for the American Legion. They aim for a 21 member unit with instruments costing about 300 dollars. The corps will perform at Legion events and serve the community, reflecting local worthwhile aspirations. The paper pledges support for the project.

First bale at Wied Koether and Roedergin received

The first bale of 1930 cotton arrived Wednesday after noon July 28. It was brought in by Anton Schilhach. Mr and Mrs Charles Kuentzel celebrate the birth of a son born July 9 who signs Raymond, with hopes he grows into a helpful ginner to his father.

Lavaca County Democratic Primary Totals With Runoff Prospects

Lavaca County voters cast 6377 Democratic primary votes with all county officers renominated. Runoff targets include commissioners in precincts 3,7 (Burkett and Pustka) and 2,6 (Kubenka and Mladenka). Miriam Ferguson leads governor and faces Ross Sterling in the August 23 runoff. County results list Ferguson 2634, Sterling 2002, and other races including Sheriff, Treasurer, and various precinct contests.

City Extends Power Line to Pool Site North of Shiner

City crews, led by John Degenhardt, extend the electric line five miles north of Shiner toward a new swimming pool project by Jake Kurtz. Farmers along the route may connect as services are completed. Janssen Bros. hold the contract and are pouring concrete this week. pool expected to open within a month.

Midway reports its first bale of 1930 cotton received Friday, brought in by Chas Hajek. The bale weighed 539 pounds and was purchased by the Rogge gin.

Vocational Instructor Arrives In Shiner High Community

W E Kingen, the new vocational instructor for Shiner High, and his wife with two sons aged 17 and 15 and a daughter aged 10, are settled in the Russel cottage. He is ready for business 365 days a year and is on the job now after three years in vocational agriculture teaching, most recently two years at Huckabay in Erath county. He holds a B A degree and is pursuing an M A.

Honor Students of State University

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Texas announced spring semester honors. Out of 3575 enrolled, 428 names appear on the honor roll including Shiner entrants Roxie Veree Boske and Gene Roscoe Schulze. The Gazette commends Shiner residents for their achievement and civic pride. Hertha Bohman visited Stockdale and San Antonio. The Moulton box reported 686 votes with District Clerk Chas. Strauss receiving every vote.
