Shiner Receives 1090 Bales of New Cotton

Public Weigher L. M. Roeder reports 1090 bales of cotton received up to Tuesday night August 5. Weighing runs from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. This week cotton arrived at about 200 bales daily. Heat opened fields early. Farmers gin set a record with 101 bales from 5:15 a.m. to 7:35 p.m. Farmers seek dry weather to gather the open cotton. no report comparing receipts to last year. Cotton this year is ten days earlier with only a few first bales received by this date in 1929. Last Saturday was a crowded, busy day for merchants.

Shiner Gun Club Opens New Headquarters and First Shoot

The Shiner Gun Club moved equipment to the Jake Kurtz swimming pool last Sunday and held its first hoat with 50 bird event results led by R F Mueller and J R Mike among others. Additional 25 bird and 12 double events listed competing shooters included C J Garbade D Garbade Jr Edwin Wolters and O A Darilek with next skeet shoot planned for the 17th at 4 pm.

Summer School Notes and Graduation Highlight Shiner Public School

The 1929 1930 summer term closes Friday August 8 with about twenty students using the session to make up or advance work. Charlie Kurtz becomes the first summer term graduate, earning his diploma August 8 for completing English and other requirements. The school, led by Jones and McCormick, has operated for ten weeks under T H Leslie. Free family contest at Temple Lumber Co on Saturday August 9 with no obligation.

Shiner Summer School Closes After Two-Month Session

The Shiner summer school started June 1, 1930 and ends August 8 with final exams August 4 to 8. Nineteen students attended including Emil Beran, Lorene Gieptner, Audry Kuhn, and Charlie Kurtz who earned his diploma after completing English work. Principal J. C. Jones called the program a success and noted the dedicated student attitude despite heat.
