A brisk and crowded polling day produced the heaviest vote in years totaling 411. Governors, attorneys general, and other statewide and county offices were decided with figures listed for candidates including Campbell Weill, A. By. Davideons, R. M. Wynne, Bob Barker, and W. M. Atkinson. Local option and submission questions appeared with counts showing favor and opposition across districts.
The Democratic primary convention opened at 8 oclock with chairman O F Knape presiding. A I Kotzebue was elected secretary as delegates KE Studemann L A Meiners Dr J G Guenther R Wiseman F T Fehrenkamp Aug Mueller were elected to the county convention.
Early returns from numerous precincts including Hallettsville Moravia and Williamsburg indicate Campbell leading for governor with Williams second and Nixon carrying District Attorney. Rabb leads as representative and Valenta ahead for tax assessor. Koerth, Wagener, and Leist vie for precinct posts as Habermacher and Strauss secure local offices.
The Farmers State Bank of Shiner announces a special stockholders meeting for September 16 1908 at the bank office. The purpose is to vote on increasing capital from 30000 to 50000 dollars and to consider using the Texas State Bank Law to operate as a trust company. Directors Chas Flato H Dreyer Sr Julius Dreyer and A G Lichey preside.
S A Carnes and Son advertise as cash buyers seeking 2000 dozen fresh eggs per week and requests for large and medium frying chickens. They list Shiner and cakum as locations. The ad emphasizes highest market price in spot cash.
