Farm Safety Week Proclaimed in Lavaca County

County Judge Gus J. Strauss proclaims July 20 to 26 1969 as Farm Safety Week in Lavaca County at the request of Lavaca County Farm Bureau president M E Jacobs. The campaign aims to reduce rising farm deaths through safety tools and coordinated activities.

Slaton rites for Mrs. R. J. Maeker

Funeral services for Ophelia Dreyer Maeker 81 were held at St. Joseph 39 Catholic Church Slaton with Requiem Mass. Burial followed at Slaton Cemetery. Survivors include husband Rudy J. Maeker and four children. Memorial rites note her Shiner origin and long Wilson Slaton residence.

Last Rites For Jim Kosarek

Jim Kosarek a longtime Poth farmer died in Memorial Hospital Floresville on July 10 1969 at 81. Burial followed at Floresville Cemetery with services at Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Lee Geldmeier. He was born February 11 1888 in Jackson County Texas and survived by two sons two daughters seventeen grandchildren two sisters and two brothers.

Gonzales Rites For Frank Hanzelka

Funeral services for Frank Hanzelka were held at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales with a Requiem Mass. Burial followed at St. James Cemetery. Hanzelka died at his home in the Bebe community aged 76 years. He was born in Libhosz Czechoslovakia and settled in the United States in 1909. Surviving family includes two daughters three sons and a sister.

New San Antonio Archbishop to visit Shiner

Shiner Marker to be Dedicated in Shiner Texas

An official Texas Historical Marker honoring Shiner will be dedicated in front of City Hall on Thursday July 24 1969 at 7 30 p m The 24 by 18 inch aluminum marker notes Shiner origin as German Czech Half Moon and outlines town development by H B Shiner and cattlemen. A Lavaca County Historical Survey Committee co sponsorship follows the ceremony with a committee meeting at 1020 North Avenue C.

Texas Barbed Wire Collectors Set for Austin Convention

The Texas Barbed Wire Collectors Association will hold its 4th annual convention in Austin August 1–3 1969 at the Commodore Perry Hotel. Over 100 displays are planned with registration starting Friday afternoon. The event features talks by C Boone McClure and Jack R Maguire, a banquet, and a Texas Historical Marker dedication for the Grinninger fence. Nearly 200 delegates from several states are expected.

St Isidor Lodge Plans Celebration Picnic and Dinner

The St Isidor Lodge will host a picnic and celebration at Blases Place between Halletts ville and Shiner on Sunday July 27. A barbecue and beef stew dinner with trimmings begins at 11 a.m. and supper at 5 p.m. Entertainment includes music refreshments a country auction at 3 p.m and a social at 8 p.m. Public invitation extended for food entertainment and fellowship.
