On Thursday night July 12 the city council and Southwest Gas Co officials lit a torch signaling Shiner’s link to the Yoakum Gonzales line from White Point and Refugio gas fields. The Dixie Gas and Fuel Co. of Houston, fed from Louisiana fields, also connects. The Spoetzi Brewery and Ice Factory and Purity Creamery were among first to receive gas, with residents soon cooking by gas as the town moves toward a modern city convenience.
