Quiet Beeville Wedding Highlights Simple Joys

Lola Denny Ellison and Edwin H. Pohler wed at St Joseph's Rectory Beeville on July 9 at 10 am in a private ceremony. The couple, surrounded by immediate families, received warm wishes as they depart for San Antonio. Ellison, daughter of H. Y. Ellison Taft, holds a San Marcos State Teachers College degree and taught English in Prairie Lea before moving to Shiner. Pohler, son of E. J. Pohler, is a Shiner High School graduate with additional San Antonio commercial training. The Gazette extends heartfelt congratulations and wishes for a fruitful life together.

The bride wore eggshell flat crepe princess ensemble and carried rose and lilac bouquet. Attendant Miss Robbie Hopkins wore pastel green and pink roses. Best man George Shapatric. Couple left for a wedding journey through Northern California Oregon Washington and Canada. They will reside in Los Angeles.

A chamber committee and the Shiner Board of Education arranged for Shiner High School to again hire a vocational instructor. Superintendent Leslie discussed with the Department of Agriculture in Austin, noting one year of training has shown fruit and aims for a permanent program. The Chamber backs the move to benefit farmers and possibly diversify away from tomato farming locally.

Narrow escape in Shiner car accident near Victoria

Sunday morning about 3 30 a car carrying John Valenta his wife and young daughter collided near a railroad crossing while following a second car. Mrs Valenta was cut across the neck and forehead and eight stitches were needed. Valenta suffered a leg injury and the child had minor injuries. The injured were taken to Victoria hospital and later brought home after treatment.
