Social Security Office Visit in Shiner on July 17

A representative from the Social Security Office in Victoria will be at Shiner City Hall at 9:00 AM Monday July 17 1967 to help residents file retirement survivor's disability or Medicare claims and answer questions. Lady Bird Johnson Visits Czech Community in Praha

First Lady Mrs Lyndon Johnson toured St Marys Catholic Church in Praha Fayette County during an eleven hour visit in the 10th Congressional District. She wreath laid at the parish cemetery and spoke at a World War II memorial grave site as local residents and Czech societies welcomed her with Moravian costumes and music.

Mobile X-Ray Unit to Visit Shiner on July 19

Shiner Business Men's Club announces the Alamo Area TB Association mobile X-ray unit will be in Shiner at Legion Park on Wednesday July 19 from 1 00 p m to 7 00 p m. A 50 cent adult and 25 cent teen fee is requested, but no one will be refused an X ray for inability to pay. X rays are available to those 14 and over. Negative results receive no report. abnormal X rays prompt contact with the patient and physician. County and City Health Officers will receive copies of all abnormal reports.

Two Cuero, Texas youths Richard Gonzales Jr. 14 and Carl William Gonzales 13 drowned Sunday July 9 1967 in the Guadalupe River below a bridge near Nursery opposite the Sam Rayburn power plant. Bodies recovered. cause accidental drowning verdict by Justice Alfred C. Baass.

Grand Jury Indicts E Chaloupka In Chudes Slaying

A special session of the grand jury returned one indictment against Ernest Chaloupka for murder with malice in the May 16 1967 slaying of George Chudej. Chaloupka remains free on the $10 000 bond. A trial date likely not before September due to court vacations.

Cat Spring merchant Herman A. Strauss dies at 81

Herman A. Strauss, a Cat Spring general merchant for 35 years, died of a heart attack in Bellville Hospital on July 2 1967 at age 81. Funeral services were held July 4 at Pete E. Etlinger Chapel in Bellville with burial in Kollatschny Cemetery Cat Spring. Survivors include wife Olga Kollatschny two daughters Hilmer Fricke and Victor B Volkening a son W D Strauss two sisters and eight grandchildren.

Historical marker planned for victims of Indians at Shiner meet

Lavaca County Historical Survey Committee met in Shiner to approve a five foot memorial marker to honor county settlers slain by Indians. The R. J. Pesek Monument Works will erect the marker for 295 dollars in Hallettsville Memorial Park with dedication date to be announced.

Shiner Club Hosts Summer Dance at Legion Park

The Shiner Dance Club plans a Saturday night summer dance on July 15 at Legion Park starting at 9 p.m. with Jurecka's Orchestra. Birthday party at Trinity Lutheran Home honors John J. Dusek

The TLH Auxiliary hosted a June birthday party in the Trinity Lutheran Home dining room with pink and white decor. VFW Auxiliary of Shiner honored birthday guest John J. Dusek and a local student musical group performed before cake and coffee. The event featured songs and piano, accordion, and saxophone pieces by local performers. The next party on July 25 will be hosted by the ALCW of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hallettsville.

Rites Held For Accident Victim John R. Bennett

Rites for John Richard Bennett 26 of Route 2 Yoakum were held at Buffington Funeral Home with Rev W W Connally presiding. He died after a collision near Cuero on Sunday night while driving on US 87. Bennett a Navy veteran and Texas Highway Department employee. He was born August 12 1940 in Yoakum and attended Hallettsville High School.
