Dedication planned for Presidio La Bahia by Mrs. Johnson

Mrs. Lyndon Johnson plans an August dedication of Presidio La Bahia in Goliad after security details are arranged by the secret service. The historic fortress was the site of Col. James Fannin's capture and massacre during Texas independence.

Rites Held In San Antonio For Max E Mittanek

Max E Mittanek 90 died July 10 1967 in a Stockdale nursing home. Services were held July 12 at Riebe Saunders in San Antonio with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. He was born October 6 1876 in Bellville Texas and lived in Shiner before moving to San Antonio. He worked at J C Blohm and Son and later ran the M System Grocery. He retired in 1947 and was a member of St John s Lutheran Church and Harmonia Lodge. Survivors include his daughter Cora Chambers and son-in-law Robert L Chambers two grandsons Rev Robert Mittanek and Michael Mittanck and one great grandson Bryan Mittanck. His wife died May 10 1951.

Graveside Rites In Shiner For Mrs. Tom Mikeska

Mrs. Rosalie Mikeska of Victoria died after a long illness in a Houston hospital at age 87. Funeral services were held in Shiner with burial at Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include five daughters, two sons, 19 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.

Joe Pesek aged 64, died July 10 1967 at his daughter’s home in Gonzales after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held July 12 at Buffington Funeral Home and Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with graveside rites in Shiner Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Julia, daughter Vlasta Pirkle, son Adolph Pesek, five grandchildren, a sister and three brothers.

Liquor Stores Cut Hours Starting August 28

State Liquor Control Board agent Liddell said hours will move from 9 a.m. 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. 9 p.m. beginning August 28. New law bans liquor sales and delivery on Christmas Day and Sundays. Penalties range from 10 to 100 dollars per violation. Victoria Advocate reports.

Arnold F. Bohuslav Receives Agency Appointment

Arnold F. Bohuslav of Route 2 Hallettsville is named to the Lavaca County Farmers Home Administration three member committee for a three year term starting July 1 1967. The panel advises the county supervisor on loan eligibility and loan servicing while supporting rural housing and community facilities. Shiner Motor Sales was burglarized Monday night with about 800 in merchandise stolen including a Victor calculator two radios tires and small items. The cash drawer was left open with 1.50 in nickels and pennies. pennies taken, nickels removed. Front and rear access points were forced and a fingerprint expert assisted in the Tuesday morning investigation.
