Funeral rites for Frances Smejkal were held at St Josephs Yoakum with Requiem Mass. Burial followed at St Josephs Cemetery. Surviving children grandchildren and great grandchildren attended. she lived with her daughter in San Antonio before death at 83.

John Leo Pulkrabek of Boyce Louisiana died June 20 1969 in St Francis Cabrini Hospital Alexandria at 73 years old He was a WWI veteran and retired grocer with 50 years in Louisiana Rosary was said June 21 at Hixon Brothers Funeral Home and Mass held June 22 at St Margaret Catholic Church Burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Survivors include wife Bessie daughter Bessie Mae Martens and three grandchildren plus siblings and extended family from Shiner Yoakum Moulton San Antonio and Houston The article also notes other locals attending and lists pallbearers and relatives.

Frank Baros 81 of Shiner died July 1 1969 in Wagner Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Services were at Buffington Funeral Home and Shiner Catholic Church with Rev. John J. Hanacek officiating. Burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife Katrina and eight children plus numerous grandchildren and relatives. He was a lifelong Catholic and member of KJT Lodge No 20.

Flag dedication draws crowd to Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner

More than a thousand people gathered July 3 at Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner for a flag installation ceremony atop the building. The event featured a social hour, a prayer by Rev. Ha nacek, remarks by Felix Hubner, and speaker Homer Leonard, Texas Brewers Institute General Counsel, with Joe Patek Orchestra providing music and Mayor Ben Marcak turning on the floodlights.
