Spectacular Veterans Day Parade Opens

The hour long parade through downtown drew crowds as 11 a.m. march led by Sheriff Scrap Iron Reaves with veterans Adolf Filip and Edwin Otto on horseback opened the Veterans Day spectacle. Many local posts from Shiner Moulton Yoakum Hallettsville and surrounding towns joined with floats from Cuero Tex Tan Yoakum Shiner and more. The Army Recruiting float the Hallettsville band and Miss Beverly Bell Miss Turkey Trot 1947 plus numerous civic groups highlighted a festive display.

Family Night Observed By Rotary Club

Shiner Rotary Club held family night at Blucher Park on Monday at 7 30 p m a chicken barbecue served sixty attendees around the outdoor lunch room. A. H. Kasper presided as president with Glade Welhausen honored for Rotary’s first year success. Mayor Paul R Otto introduced new officials as blue and gold decor brightened the pavilion.

City Bonds Planned for Shiner Streets Paving

The Board of Aldermen of Shiner calls a bond election for July 25 to issue 75,000 dollars for paving and surfacing city streets. Citizens are urged to read the notice elsewhere in the Gazette for details.

Rotary club event features musical numbers quiz and games

Strauss and Carlos Dean Wen ske led the opening numbers while Ad Richter directed a quiz with Rotarians versus Rotary Anns which the Anns won. Arthur Ward closed with a Simon Sez contest. Out of town guests included Eli Rubin Snyder Kla ger Taub Cherry Garbade Armstrong Reichart and others from Hallettsville Flatonia Yoakum.

Veterans Gala and July Fourth Celebration At Rockdale

Thousands joined veterans for Independence Day festivities including a Randolph Field Band concert and a moving Silver Star award to Mrs Angelina Polasek. The event featured remarks by Brigadier General Byron Gates and General Miller Ainsworth and honored local veterans amid crowd cheers and ceremonial taps. A chartered train plan to Rockdale drew protests against the S P Railroad service cuts with widespread community involvement along the route.

Sedlmeyer Named Head C of C

Lee J Sedlmeier publisher of the Shiner Gazette was elected president of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce at the regular meeting Thursday night. James Buske named first vice president W L Henkhaus second vice president Raymond Dierksen third vice president Glade Welhausen treasurer. A new secretary will be named next meeting. A resume of the years work will be published in next week’s Gazette.

Seifert Arrives Here To Teach Vets School

A new veterans instructor in agriculture, Frank Buddy Seifert, arrives to teach at the Veterans vocational school. Seifert, a former Marine officer from Weimar, is a Weimar High School graduate and studies through A. and S. College. He recently completed several weeks of practice teaching in Schulenburg’s agricultural department.
