Veterans Ready For Gigantic July 4th Celebration
Brigadier General Byron E. Gates, born May 6, 1895 in Aberdeen South Dakota, rose from private to Brigadier General and now serves as Chief of Staff of the Flying Division Air Training Command at Randolph Field Texas. He led parts of the U S mission to Brazil in 1945 and was Deputy Commander of the U S Army Air Forces in the South Atlantic. He is rated a Command Pilot Combat Observer and Aircraft Observer.

Veterans Day Celebrates with Parade and Patriotic Program
Large crowds are expected for Shiner's first postwar patriotic celebration. The schedule includes a main parade with veterans groups Randolph Field Band and a special unit, a 2:30 p.m. rodeo at Henkhaus arena, an afternoon Randolph Field Band concert, meals at Blucher Park, and a night dance with Patek's Orchestra.

Silver Star Awarded July 4 to Angelina Polasek
Posthumous Silver Star to Mrs. Angelina Polasek by presidential directive for gallantry on 4 June 1944 in Italy. She exposed herself to heavy fire to neutralize a gun emplacement, was wounded yet pressed forward, and was killed, reflecting great credit on herself and the United States Armed Forces.

The executive officer in the 36th Division General Miller Ainsworth of Luling and Gonzales is noted for World War I and II service. A banker and former stockman, he led Texas troops at Salerno and was chosen to present the Silver Star to the mother of T Sgt Richard A Polasek who died in Italy on June 4 1944.
