An Independence Day afternoon gathering at the Merrem home featured red white and blue decor with zinnias and blue bells. LaDelle Merrem in patriotic dress handed out score pads and pencils as eight tables of bridge played for prizes. Mrs E J Merrem and Miss Merrem hosted and served hospitality to a large group including Mrs Arno Wagner and Miss Iane May Striebeck who won high score and a blue candy jar respectively.

Tak Cha Wee Camp Fire Outing At Camp Na Toma
A group of Camp Fire Girls from Tak Cha Wee traveled from the Henkhaus home to Camp Na Toma for a two day outing. Rain drenched many participants while games and activities continued with ice treats and praise for cooks. The camp closed Thursday morning with thanks to Mr Arg Rogge for transport.

University Honorees at 500 Club Tea
Miss Cora Berckenhoff entertained at the 500 Club after noon on June 30 praising Baylor University graduates Louise Thulemeyer and Elvera Herder. Green and gold colors, floral motifs, pressed chicken and iced tea accompanied the event in the sun parlor. Mrs. Louis Fink won a cut glass nappy for high score, Thulemeyer received the booby, and both honorees received dainty kerchiefs. Commercial Club Sees Large Attendance at Meeting
Last Thursday night the Commercial Club held a regular session with unusually large attendance. Discussion favored the bond issue and highway. A committee of J C Blohm O C Henkraus and E J Mer rem was formed to secure property value estimates and information to present to the State Highway Commission for road designation. A first class hotel for Shiner received ardent support though no action was taken on Dr G Schulze proposition. More propositions planned for the next regular meeting August 6.

Big Barbecue at Kokernot School to Open
A barbecue event at Kokernot school is set for next Sunday July 12 to celebrate a newly built building by John K Kasper and crew. Dinner at noon costs 35 cents for adults and 15 cents for children. Refreshments will be sold on the grounds. An English and Bohemian address is planned at 3 p m followed by an evening dance. Proceeds benefit the new school.
